Scimitar & Summer Review

Captain's Blog Stardate 91101.53

So what does everyone think about the summer event? Personally I love the map. It's very creative especially with all the hidden little gems like the cave near the river to the north. Even though it is a virtual environment, you could still go for a stroll through the woods and look at all the different things.

I just got the Superior Floater which made me happy. It's much faster than the rental one and has better handling. Aside from that, the other rewards are nice too. I'm happy they finally added some beach cloths to the game.

I do have a bit of a complaint though. It's nothing major and I'm sure something that will be addressed next year. I like the Hunting event but the Dancing one just feels soooooo boring to me. I wish there was a 3rd event that also gives out those favors that way I could do that instead of dancing. I'm certain that next year more will be added to the map, just like they did with the Winter Wonderland.

Last thing to talk about is the new Scimitar ships that are coming out for the Romulan faction. There are 3 ships in total: the Scimitar, Falchion, and Tulwar. As of the time I'm writing this blog, details haven't been released yet but on Monday they will be (or have been depending on when you're reading this).

Odds are each one will represent a different career (Tactical, Engineering, Science) and have console/boff slots to match. It's basically what they've been doing with a lot of major ships lately. I'm not sure if I want one though.

Let's wrap up this blog with 2 questions. First, what do you think about the summer event? Second, will you buy one or all of the Scimitar ships?

I'm loving the summer event, though I haven't been very lucky on the Horga'hn hunt with regards to getting Egg drops!
I certainly want the Eggs, but I don't want to have to pay 150 Favors for them. ; )

I'm not as excited about the Scimitar, and it's not on my purchase list. (Though it will be neat to see other people fly them in game.) I think subconsciously I'm used to shooting them, not thinking of flying one.

I like the Summer Event. No, that's not true. I love it. The landscape of the Festival island is so intoxicating, that I had to force myself to get back into space to do other stuff. LOL. The first thing I did was to get the standard Floater, because the rental one was awful. By now, I have also the Superior Floater and it's just great. I agree, that Dancing is a bit boring. Around 12 minutes of "work" for only 25 Favors doesn't feel right. The best thing yet, that I found on Risa are the Subspace Party Amplifiers, that you for 100 Latinum each from the Ferengi Trader near the Dabo Table. Bought hundreds of them for the next Parties. :)

Now for the Scimitar. So far, I only bought the Oddyssey Ship Pack. Even when I was still a Starfleet player, I was reluctant to buy the other Ship Packs. That goes for the Bortasqu' Ship Pack as well. Now I focus on my Romulan Engineer and the Scimitars are just too tempting. From what I read, this Ship Pack will be a major seller for Cryptic. Not only with it be able to fire a barrage while cloaked (Set Bonus), it is only supposed to have Carrier Pets. For me as a dedicated Carrier Skipper, I just have to have them, budget permitting. So long story short: Yeah, I get the entire Pack.

Scimitars? meh. Summer Event? AWESOME!The ship I really want them to sell is the Romulan carrier from... I think "Divide et Imperia".... you know, the one with the shape-changing wings and the massive tractor beam... And as for Risa... I'm good with the standard floater, so those Favors are gonna make me some latinum!

Shape-shaping Wings? Sounds a lot like the Scimitar to me. ;)

Summer Event... AWESOME!!!! I love the Superior Pack. In the 15 minute period, I'm able to run 3.5 toons through before time expires, netting me around 100 Loh's every run. I was able to get one lucky run, 4 toons completed with 2 seconds to spare. I'm going for Superior Packs on all 6 toons, just in case they let us fly them later on down the road on other planets... and obviously for clothes :)

Summer Event: I have to agree with everyone else on the dance competition. That is why I have not even bothered with it. The Horga'hn "treasure hunt" is fun once or twice a day, and fortunately it is not long. I actually did the first three runs without the jet pack, but they were a pain. The jet pack course is fun and quick. Since everything is pretty easy and not very time consuming, I would rate the Summer Event a success.

As to the Scimitar: I don't particularly like the look. I am not sure how large it will be, but I am not particularly partial to large ships.

First, the important part -- I LOVE the Summer Event. I like that the Floater courses vary (unlike the race tracks in the Winter Event. I like the Horga'hn Hunt (even though it took me a couple of days to figure out how to run it and how to get enough Favors to buy Standard Floaters for all my toons). I even like the Dance Contest, not for its own sake, but because it gives me a chance to pick up some Favors in between Horga'hn Hunts. With fifteen toons to manage, I need all the help I can get in completing enough missions to get some decent reward items.

I fell in love with the Corvette Ship the minute I laid eyes on it. I haven't seen anything about the Scimitars, but I doubt I'll be in the market for them. I bought the Romulan Legacy Pack, so I've now got five tier five ships to figure out hwat to do with. I don't think I need any more ships right now. That said, however, I would love it if the Suliban Cell Ship became available
in the C-Store. It would be really cool to have my own supply vessel with bank, mail and exchange service that I could access without having to warp back to a star base.

Suliban Cell Ship in C-Store? Many people wanted that with the Tuffli as well, but it did not happen. I doubt, that would change with the Suliban Cell Ship. If you need, virtual instant access to Mail, Bank, Exchange without returning to the Starbase, then you should join the "Public Service" channel (http://stopublicservice.net).

Started working on the summer event last night. My Fed Science Captain, Diana is on the hunt for the corvette.

The dance thing is a little cumbersome, but works out well enough. It needs to show some progress as you go though. Other than that, the summer event is being quite entertaining. The corvette sounds like it maneuvers like a fighter almost.

As for the Scimitar ships, yes, those are on the shopping list. I did not get the Legacy pack simply because I was hoping for something nice in the C-store for an end-game ship and that appears to be being delivered.

Must go back to reality now. Spent a week in the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone and my brain is not accepting the return to "normal" with any alacrity.

Just reread the Blog comments and am shocked about the amount of typos I made. Sorry everyone. :(

The new Romulan dreadnaughts are more of the same, imho : slow, big, bloody ugly variations on attractive canon designs, dangerously close to op consoles. It seems cryptic is getting so desperate to sell new premiums that they're willing to throw balance out the window. Of course, balance only matters in pvp, which is still the least satisfying of all current mmo's in my experience. For just tooling around the galaxy and running STF's these are big, ponderous, but useful toys. One surprising thing is that there really isn't a "science" version among the new dreadnaughts...really, there is little consistency, or responsiveness from these people, imho.

No Science version? What is the Tulwar then? It has 5 Science Consoles.

Love the Scimitar!! Summer Event? Not so much. I've been waiting for the Scimitar to come out since the Romulan era started.
