Upcoming STO Updates!

Before I start this week's blog I want to let everyone know about our new mission series. The STO Academy will be designing a series of missions using the foundry, and the best part is that you get to decide how the story progresses. The first thing to do is decide who the enemy will be, so go to our series page and vote for which enemy you would like to see. The poll closes on April 23, so hurry up if you haven't voted already. I will be working on the first episode of the series to get the story going. It will be released on May 1st. After that anyone can discuss the mission, give me feedback, and decide what the second episode will be about. The good news, I plan on releasing a Federation and Klingon version of this series. I'm very excited about working on this project with all of you. Make sure you keep an eye on our series page! Now on to other matters. This past week the latest Engineering Report was released and obviously it talks about all the newest features the game will be getting, as well as other things. There are actually a few big updates coming to the game. As most of you know, they are revamping ground combat. There will be an optional "over the shoulder" aiming feature, which I think is pretty cool. The new Duty Officer system is on its way which will allow you to designate jobs to your crew (not bridge officers, the rest of the crew). For those of you that don't know, these missions can boost something on your ship, help with crafting, and other awesome things that the developers come up with. Third, the tutorial for the game will be replaced with a whole new one and this opens up a bunch more stuff for us. So what's up with this new tutorial? Well first of all the Federation and Klingon factions will each be getting their own version of it. No more needing to play through the Federation faction before unlocking the Klingons. Secondly, each tutorial will be taking place in the academy of that faction (Starfleet Academy and Klingon Academy). The best part is that both of these will become maps that you can visit at any time! We'll finally be able to beam down to Earth. If you guys haven't seen it yet, here is a quick screenshot of the new Qo'noS. You'll also be able to skip over these tutorials if you've done them already. I've only gone over the tip of the iceberg here, the Engineering Report has a lot more information which you might want to check out. I think you can tell that I'm very excited for these upcoming updates. Season 4 seems as though it will bring about some radical changes to the game (just like every other season haha). As Over the shoulder aiming will be less accurate, do you think it will do a little bit more damage to make up for sometimes missing?

Also, wouldn't it be cool for some PvP ground to be OtS aiming only? It would give some use to the cover that is in some places ^.^

It might do more damage. I'm pretty sure that crouching in the game right now does a little extra damage as compared to standing.

I'm not a huge PvP fan, but that could be cool.

Yep, hitting c to crouch does do extra damage, at the cost of mobility, so I assume Over the Shoulder aiming will have an additional boost to either damage or range
