Which Ship is the Best?

A common question among players, especially new players, is “which type of ship is the best”. The answer is none. This is true for all factions. Each type of ship has weaknesses and strengths. A good Captain learns what the weaknesses are and tries to compensate for them. For example, if your ship has weak shields then you will want consoles and skills which boost shield strength as well as repair it. Maybe you feel that you aren’t doing enough damage, so you should get consoles which improve weapon damage. The only way to determine your ship’s weaknesses is by doing battle. “Defend the Sector Block” missions are a great way to test your ship. If you plan on doing a lot of PvP then PvP areas is the place you should test your ship.

You basically want to choose a ship type that you like. If you are in Starfleet then your choices will be between a Cruiser, Escort, or Science Vessel. If you are a Klingon, your choies are Bird-of-Prey, Raptor, Battle Cruiser/Carrier. You can read more about how to choose a ship by looking at our other guides. None of these will have an advantage over another. There isn't one ship that will dominate other players or the entire game. Everything is balanced.
