Diplomatic Missions
There are 8 diplomatic missions which you can do to get some Diplomatic Experience. These missions are listed below as well as their locations:

In addition to these missions, players can also use the Duty Officer system to gain Diplomatic Experience. By sending your Duty Officers on Diplomatic assignments you can gain addition Diplomatic Experience and easily rise through the ranks.

Diplomatic Investigations
These take you to various exploration areas in order to do diplomatic missions. These missions range from scanning devices, to accessing computers, or aiding a planet. Basically they are the non-combat missions that you normally find in the exploration areas. Each mission gives you 10 Diplomatic Experience points.

In order to get these missions you must hail Ambassador Jiro often. He will not contact you with these missions and you will not see the (Q) symbol in the hail screen next to his name when these missions are available. Once he has a Diplomatic Investigation mission available he will tell you which exploration area to go to. This will not show up in your mission list so make sure you remember which location you must go to.

Once you have entered the exploration area a button will appear on the right side of your screen (unless you have moved the HUD elements around). This button will say "Diplomatic Investigation". Click it and you will be taken to your mission.

First Contact Diplomatic Missions
First Contact missions can only be performed by Envoys or higher. You will have to hail Ambassador Jiro in order to get these and they will show up in your mission list. You will be told which exploration area to enter, and upon entering you will see a button on the right side of your sceen for the First Contact mission. Clicking it will take you to your mission.

These missions are a bit more difficult than the Diplomatic Investigations. You will have to talk to three of the Ambassador's staff to learn about the specie's history, culture, and more. Then you can talk to the Ambassador who will ask you a few questions. The experience given on these missions will depend on the answers you give to the Ambassador. Be honest and diplomatic.
