Choosing a Klingon Ship

There are four types of Klingon ships in Star Trek Online: Bird-of-Prey, Raptor, Battle Cruiser, and Carrier. To make the best possible decision on which to choose you should have a better understanding of each. Battle Cruisers and Carriers are similar, however they have different play styles.

The Bird-of-Prey ships are small, fast, and they can cloak which is great for recon missions. They have a battle cloak which allows them to cloak during battle which is perfect for hit and run tactics. They are vunerable while cloaking and decloaking, however their small size and speed makes up for it by making them a hard target to hit. They have universal bridge officer stations which means that any type of Bridge Officer can be posted at those stations.

Raptors are hard hitters and can take more damage than the Bird-of-Prey. They do not have battle cloaks so during battle they won't be able to hide. The primary focus of Raptors is to attack, preferably using the forward weapons which are the strongest. Hegh'ta

Battle Cruisers are large ships that have fast repair rates due to the large amoung of crew that can be carried. They have strong hulls which means they can take a lot of damage. They are slower than the other two hits but can also deal a good amount of damage.

Carriers are the flagships of fleets and only Generals can use them. They have large amounts of crew which gives the ship incredible repair rates. Their large size makes them slow in the battle field, but they make up for it a very strong hull. They can easily target enemy subsystems in order to disable the enemy. Each carrier has hangers which can release vessels to attack the enemy or repaire your ship.

So how do you choose between these great ships? It depends on what you prefer. If you want to deal the most damage possible then you may want a Battle Cruiser or Carrier. However you may prefer speed so a Bird-of-Prey would be your ship of choice. Raptors are a nice balance between them, however they can't cloak during battle and do not have as strong a hull as Battle Cruisers or Carriers.

You can also decide based on looks. If you like how one ship looks over another then choose that one. You could also try out different ones at each new rank. For example as a Lieutenant you have a Bird-of-Prey. At Lt. Commander you could try a Raptor. At Commander you could pilot a Battle Cruiser. At Captain you could use any of those three (since Carriers are not available yet). At General you can try a Carrier.

The choice is yours nobel warrior. Pick wisely and you will be happy with your ship. Remember that the ship does not make the warrior good; The warrior makes the ship good.
