An Unhappy Birthday?
Captain's Blog Stardate 92691.19
Happy 5 years! Now let's take a look at what Cryptic has done. We got a brand new episode called Dust to Dust which was cool. They also gave us a revamped Romulan story arc for Federation players... I ask myself, was that really necessary?
So here's the thing, they wanted to tie the Fed-Romulan story arc into the Romulan Republic story which I think is a great idea. The problem is that they took away 14 episodes and replaced them with only 4!! WHAT?!
The maps were cool, the story took it's time and played out. Now the maps are still cool but the story finishes quickly! Part of the original 14 also dealt with Hirogen so I'm hoping this just means they'll add a few Hirogen missions at some point. They have to make up for the fact that they took away 10 whole episodes. I just don't understand it.
I'm not thrilled about that change, but let's move on to the new episode, Dust to Dust. I thought this was pretty cool. At the end of the Kobali story I was excited to see how Cryptic would continue that story and I think they did a great job in Dust to Dust. It's also pretty cool how they used an old Voyager story and connected it to Delta Rising. I hope they can do more episodes like this in the future.
In the comments let me know what you think about all these new episodes.

Well, I don't understand why Cryptic needed to revamp the Romulan Mysteries Arc. What I finally do know, is why Starfleet is getting all the love in this game now. We often wondered about the sheer injustice in this game. Take the Delta Pack for example. 6 Ships for Starfleet, but only 2 for KDF and RRF? Well, I guess it is directly proportional to the amount of characters in game. With 73% playing Feds, 18% playing Klingons and 11% playing Romulans, I guess it is pretty clear now, where Cryptic is headed.
Personally, I don't expect any small amount of love for KDF or RRF anytime soon. In fact, I expect nothing at all. If something does happen in a positive way for KDF and RRF factions, then I will be happily surprised and enjoy it.
Now for the 5th Anniversary. The new episode "Dust to Dust" was indeed really cool, although the "Super Mario" part was a bit annoying.
I like Cryptic's new Dilithium sink "Omega Particles". Grind 81 Omega Particle Traces to effectively craft one Omega Tech Upgrade that has the same effect as two Superior Tech Upgrade and 2 Major Research Boosts. Although the Omega Tech Upgrade needs no Dilithium for its application, it takes 20 hours to craft. And that does not include the time need to craft Slivers, Shards and Fragments first. So I have a feeling, that some players would want that so badly, that they invest lots of Dilithium to cut it short.
What bothers me about the "Omega Particle Stabilization" Mini-Game is its pure randomness. How can it be justified that Players who get the High score of 2600 points get a Trace, while an "accident" of 10 points gives you a Sliver or even better?
Well, it fould fit Q's meanness in general. Have you noticed the little Taunts, that Q is given you? Like "Oh your little Toy Ship is so slow."?
Anyway, we got another free Ship and that alone makes the Anniversary Event worthwhile for me.

Just a quick comment about why Fed gets all the love. Feds have always had more players because when the game first came out, you had to play as a Fed to unlock KDF at level 15 I believe. It was like that for a long time so naturally there were more Fed players.
Since there were more Fed players, they got more love. Since they got more love, more people played as them. Since more people played as them, they got more love. You get the point. It's a vicious circle.

The issue is Cryptic has made the game this way. If they threw more exclusive content to the other factions the number would shift, most players have at least 1 character in each faction anyway.
To be honest with the uniqueness of the factions having almost disappeared in the last few years Cryptic has designed itself into a corner that only they can fix if they want to, which obviously they aren't, if they were we'd se more KDF and Romulan only missions coming out as well as other content.

you really didnt mind the "dust to dust" mission?
its boring with a pointless maze and puzzle then just throws you at hirogen for no reason whatsoever then ends in a way i couldnt see the kim in the episodes being happy with it felt like it was rushed and had no real substance at all, not to mention TIME GATED rewards, the only cool bit of the whole mission is the warp section, thats it.
then the omega minigame ugh
then as you say the removal of episodes, worst anniversery so far

It was a welcome change from the usual "shoot x number of enemies". I can agree with the substance. They've put out much better stories. Although I have to disagree about Kim. They took a similar approach as the story about Jhet’leya in Voyager. By the end she accepted what had happened. Granted that had more substance lol
Just a tip about the Omega minigame. Scan and let it run by itself, you'll get the reward no matter what. If you want better rewards, use the mouse instead of the keyboard.

Jhet’leya reached voyager, encountered her past friends, learned the truth from them
kim got told the truth from (in his eyes) a copy of himself an alien that claimed to be lyndsey and a random captain, ships can be faked as has happened in voyager
i just cant see him giving up like that without REAL proof.
as far as the gameplay of the mission, yeah im all for more real story other than just pew pew, the whole thing just had no sole to me and was more of a chore than fun
in the end its all subjective, just my take on the episode

and i should proof read for spelling mistakes more often lol

Hello,
Wel you are right, although they have merged some some of the story's.
Also they have linked the story to the Rom faction story line, I think that is a great idea. Also I think also that it have to to what Cryptic is planning for the further.
Wel imo the Omega mini game sucks, there for I am not interested to go jumping secter to sector to get it. Although even that have a reason, it is because they going to merge all the sectors in 3 maps (see http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/9065603 )
