So Long Atari

Captain's Blog Stardate 88994.75

Hailing frequencies open. So we now have fighters for each faction, and I must say I really like the Klingon fighter (To'Duj). It looks amazing, but I kind of wish there was a way to obtain it in the game. I'm not really a fan of the Peregrine fighter for the Feds. It just doesn't appeal to me. We can now also craft attack Hortas. I haven't crafted one yet, but I hear they are awful. Alot of people are complaining that they really don't do the Horta justice. From what I read, they are slow and don't instant kill enemies like the Horta from the Mine Enemy mission. As I said, I haven't tried it yet so I can't really give an opinion. However I do think its awesome that Cryptic is trying to add attack pets. I have some bad news before getting to the more important news. I just found out that the Foundry only allows players to have a total of 8 created missions. This means that I won't be able to create the 5 episode missions that I said for each faction (The Price of Science and The Price of Honor). What I have decided to do is to drop the Klingon side of this mission and shorten The Price of Science to just four episodes. Sorry Klingon fans! I promise I'll be making at least 1 Klingon mission and it'll be a good one. The good news is that I have started work on the second episode for the Price of Science and it is coming along nicely. If you want to add any of your thoughts make sure you visit the forum topic on it. So now on to the big news. Atari is breaking up with Cryptic. As some of you probably know, Atari purchased Cryptic in 2008 but are not dropping them (probably due to financial issues). So far the word from the STO developers is that this won't affect anything. Cryptic was a stand-alone company at one point so it will be fine by itself again. The good news is that CBS (the owners of the Star Trek IP) have their contract with Cryptic which means STO will stay in Cryptic's hands. We also know that CBS would never let STO die out since it has become such a big part of Star Trek. So rest assured, Cryptic and STO aren't going anywhere anytime soon. This week let me know what you think abou tthe fighters, the attack Horta, and about Atari no longer owning Cryptic. Take care! End transmission.

The fighters are actually a trap. They are probably not so great. I hate the thing about only 8 missions...maybe there should be C-Store item that lets you make more? The horta sounds terrible. No opinion on Atari.

Re the fighters and being a trap, I recedntly made the mistake of buying two ships from the C-Store and discovered after the fact that I am now prohibited from selling any bound equipment form any of my ships or BOffs to any vendors for the rest of eternity. To add insult to injury, the Dreadnaught I purchased turns out to be pretty much worthless, since its "special weapon" is unable to be used in combat due to its slow turning speed. Hvaing now been burned once, I will not be buying any more Atari tokens or ANY ships from the C-Store.

Not the it matters to me, but what is going to happen to the C-Store once Atari is no longer around? Will the unspent tokens just become wothless junk, like the plaques and ugly ship costumes that are the only things you can buy with your gold pressed latinum?

For the sake of the game, I hope that Cryptic comes up with a fair and equitable solution to the problem.

Not being able to sell equipment from ships has been like that for a long time. Since the end of 2010 I believe.

The C-Store belongs to Cryptic not Atari. When the game was first released the currency was called Cryptic Points. It was later changed to Atari Tokens. Its only a name so most likely they will change it back to Cryptic Points. This won't affect anything.

I actually don't even know what the fighters are. Are they like the Sxorpiom Fighters I just as a reward? Or are they like more powerful shuttles? I would prefer the shuttles snyway, for they look cool and more like Trek (we saw the quasi-official Peregrine used to represent many things, and the notion of fighters seems more like Star Wars (except for s few brief glimpses in DS 9).

I'm going to use the 20% off sale to get some uniforms and maybe a char slot. I'd like to get the Excelsior retrofit or Nebula retrofit, but I guess I should just get things like uniforms. :-/

I am excited about the Horta! I don't care how powerful he is it'll just be fun having him around. :-)

The fighters on the C-Store are like the Scorpion fighters, but you can fly them. Obviously you can only fly one and they are considered to be a Shuttle type of ship. They are actually looked at as the Escorts of Shuttles because they are fast but have weaker shields/hull.
