Engineering Report Highlights
Captain's Blog Stardate 89243.73
Hey there fellow STOers and welcome to another Captain's Blog! Some good news for us, Cryptic released a FAQ on the changes that will be happening now that Perfect World has joined us (or rather we joined them). I'm happy to say that it looks like we'll have a very smooth transition (thank you Perfect World and Cryptic!) and that the future of STO is brighter than ever. Speaking about the future of STO, the latest Engineering Report is out. Lets get into some of the highlights of this. First of all the Duty Officer system is being tested which is good to hear. I've been wanting this ever since I heard about it and am very excited for it. The fourth featured series is also being tested and as you may or may not know it'll take place in Cardassian space. There is also going to be some new equipment sets for ship and ground. Ever since the Aegis and Borg sets were released I think people have really fallen in love with the idea. A lot of ship variants are being designed as well open PvP in some social maps like Qo'noS and Andoria. They are also designing a new mission journal which sounds amazing. The best part, more shuttle missions. WOOOO!!! Everything else in the Engineering Report is stuff they are talking about doing. Two of the most popular items on this list (probably) are fleet starbases and open sector space. I know I'm excited for both. So the real question is, will Cryptic get all this stuff to us? I'd like to believe so. They have also given us everything they said they would. Hopefully they can do it in a timely manner. With the backing of Perfect World this might make things easier and we might see more content come out quicker.Written by Attilio on August 21, 2011 at 09:43 pm

I just read the August 19th Engineering Report. I don't remember Dan Stahl sounding so excited in the 190+ days I've been in the game. It definitely sounds like things are moving in the right direction. Not all of the changes are exactly what I would like if I were King of the World, but as Abe Lincoln almost said, "You can please some of the people all the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time." The design team seems to be really trying to please as many people as possible with the changes they have in store.
I can also report that I love the new Rhods Island class science ship. I never thought I would say that, being a dyed in the wool cruiser person, but the ship is really fun to fly. I bought it for the holographic "decoy" feature, but once I tried the ship to see how it worked I was so hooked that I gave up part of the double skill points bonus just to spend more time in the Rhode Island. It's nice to be pleasantly surprised by a C-Store ship. One word of caution, however, when I used the decoy on the Alhena Duterium Tanks mission it flew off and brought back the second Galor while I was still dealing with first one. Even though the Rhode Island thus becme the meat in a Galor sandwich, it was able (with some much upgraded equipment and weapons) to dispatch both of them without having to respawn. I was very impressed, to say the least

That's cool. A lot of people don't like it because they feel that it is overpowered and that you are "paying to win". Honestly I don't agree with that. First of all, I won't be surprised if there is an in game method of buying it. Second, any ship that has gone to the C-Store has some bonuses as compared to in game ships.
