"Butterfly" Review
Captain's Blog Stardate 93227.29
What did you think of "Butterfly"? It's the latest episode in the Iconian War, with an interesting plot story that probably could have been fleshed out a bit. It still feels like they are rushing through this story just to bring it to a conclusion. In any case, let's review this episode. Warning, spoilers ahead.
I could have told you that building Annorax's ship would have resulted in the alliance testing some alternate timeline that changed for the worst and we'd end up having to fix it. Clearly using his ship to defeat the Iconian's isn't the best idea. My only hope is that Cryptic somehow uses this ship for some awesome episode in the future.
Back to the story, I feel like there was one major plot hole. At the end when the ship's temporal shields failed, why did the entire timeline reset? Shouldn't our ship and the Romulan ship still have our temporal shields up? Unless Annorax's ship was protecting us, but that's not how I understood it. Technically Nog and his crew would have been "assimilated" into the current timeline while we remained protected - at least until our shields failed.
Oh yeah, here's another plot hole... what timeline are we in? Is Romulus back? I know it was assimiated in the alternate timeline but then Nog zapped the Borg gateway which should have removed them from Romulus, but does that mean Romulus was still destroyed? What's going on? Maybe I missed something but I don't think this was explained.
As I said in the opening, the plot was good but it needed some work. Testing different timeline scenarios in the holodeck, then doing a real field test and having it fail is exactly what would happen in any Star Trek episode. There would probably be some more twists, but eventually things would reset and go back to normal... and make sense.
So in the comments let me know your thoughts on this episode and if you have any answers for these plot holes (and possibly other plot holes).

I believe that Romulus was destroyed again. When they fired the second time, they were at Romulus and Jarok commented that Romulus was debris field again. Unless I am mistaken, there was no temporal equipment installed on your ship before the mission began. This implies that the Annorex was supplying the temporal shielding for the mission.
Overall, I enjoyed the mission.

I liked the mission, but also felt it could have been a two parter, or something to give it the time it needed to develop.
(But how to you break up a two parter with a story like like that, as when we played other stuff waiting for part two, we would obviously be in the Prime Universe....)

The mission was nice, but also predictable on the one hand and the resolution at the end quite unclear on the other hand (although it seemed we changed something like "the species we have never seen before ceased to exist"). What was interesting was the note about the borg close to the end, that they assimilated something in the delta quadrant and got more powerfull. May this be a hint to the next season?

The episode was interesting but short for my taste and a very predictable end!
In general the idea to insert ship anoraks good but like double-edged sword!
I think we're all watching episodes of Voyager - "Year of Hell" where we saw how anaroks without success trying to achieve the cherished goal.
We sincerely hope of criptik well thought through idea to put this ship in history and knows exactly how to end the war with Iconian not just be looking for a quick decision to end this war and story!
Outside this topic I would like to share my personal opinion and hope in the upcoming new season to see not just the mirror universe but other fractions too.
I personally as a fan of Odo hope to see Dominion and what they and personaly he did in the years since he's returned to the great link!

I think the shield was present individually on the player's ship because we, the players, remember the event.
The episode was fun, the story is promising, but it was a little predictable. I understood right away the Borg'd probably have conquered Romulus and I was disappointed they did not simulate this event also first, it felt out of character. But all in all, a good episode, fairly solid.

I found it interesting. but, I think they are doing it all wrong..so here's what we need to do. 1st, go back in time and prevent the ship from firing to begin with. This way the girl that disappeared will be back with her husband and her species will still exist. 2nd, and I wonder why no one has thought of this, just shoot the Iconian sphere and remove it..period, since it seems all the big shots are there, removing it should simply remove the threat..but that's my thoughts on it..The stories are cool tho..
