December 2012, Ask Cryptic Review

Captain's Blog Stardate 90565.48

This month's Ask Cryptic was just released and one of the hot topics is Dilithium. A lot of players haven't been happy with the changes to Dilitium rewards upon the release of Season 7, but slowly Cryptic has been trying to fix it. In this week's patch we saw the Investigate Officer Reports mission was updated to reward 960 Dilithium, 50 Fleet Marks, require only 1 Foundry mission, and have a 30 minute cooldown. This is a huge step for us since it gives us another way of earning Dilithium. So it should be much easier to get 8000 a day.

I do have some bad news for some of you. If you were looking forward to the Andorian escort ship coming in January, well apparently it isn't. The ship is supposed to come out during the first 6 months of 2013, so we can see it at any time. I was looking forward to seeing it since I love escorts, but I'll just have to wait.

As for Season 8 which is most likely due to arrive around June/July 2013, there are some nice goodies we can look forward to. Firstly, the UI is getting a overhaul which I look forward to. Hopefully we'll be able to choose which UI elements we can hide/show because right now we are limited to a few. Some new species will be released in Season 8 as well specifically the Yridians and other species from the Enterprise series. Another little gem will be switching between ships. As some of you may know, there are a lot of problems when switching ships (reassinging bridge officers, the skill tray, etc.). Cryptic wants to make that easier for us and I agree. It would be nice to be able to switch between ships easily. Traits are also getting rworked in Season 8 but not a lot of details were provided.

As for fleets, they can expect new ways of earning Fleet Marks such as PvP and Fleet Actions. There will also be a cancel option for projects as well as a re-select option (this is also true for reputation projects).

Good things ahead (and I'm sure they'll be coupled with their own negatives) but I'm always happy to see improvements made to this game. Take a look at this month's Ask Cryptic and leave your comments below!

While I liked the old "instant Foundry mission" reward system, I always felt a little guilty taking advantage of it. The change that came with Season 7 was a complete disaster and was rightly condemned by a large number of people on the various forums. The new system makes so much sense, I don't know why they didn't do it this way in the first place. It gives a reasonable reward for a reasonable investment of time and effort, and it doesn't leave you twiddling your thumbs for twenty hours waiting to be able to do the next mission.
