Do You Have a Favorite Ship?
Captain's Blog Stardate 91752.77
Hey everyone. You may or may not have noticed, but the site has been having some issues. This coming Tuesday (February 25) I'll be upgrading the server in order to provide continued excellent service to all of you. The site may be down for a while and there may be intermittent problems, but rest assured it'll be up and running better than ever!
Here's a fun question. What's your favorite ship in STO and why? I really like the Blockade Runner Retrofit. It's fast like any other escort but it can also withstand a good punishment. I've been using it for a while and out of the the majority of escorts I tried, I think this has to be my favorite.
Although the Heavy Escort Carrier is a close second. It will always hold a special place in my heart as the perfect combination of escort and carrier. Speaking of combinations, the Dyson Science Destroyers are pretty cool too. I haven't played around with it much, but I feel that it has the right turn rate to be an escort, mixed with some of the benefits of science vessels.
As you can tell, I'm partial to escorts, mainly for the speed. So let me know in the comments what's your favorite ship and why? If you say anything other than the Blockade Runner I may have to get my ferocious pet targ to attack you. His name is buttercup.

I used to have favorite ships and unfavorite ships, but that has changed lately. I started out as a cruiser fan because when I was new at the game, they were easier to fly and fight. The only one I hated was the Dreadnaught, because it was such a slug that I could never get a shot off with its spinal Laser. Now it's one of my favorites for missions like Crystalline Catastrophe where you are fighting motionless or slow moving targets. I love the look of the Odyssey and it takes a lot of damage, but it lacks real firepower. For me the most versatile ships I've flown are the Chel Great Cruiser, the Chimera Destroyer Escort, the Obelisk Escort Carrier and the Advanced Heavy Escort Retrofit. So far, the Dyson Science Destroyer seems to be right up there with the most battle-worthy ships, but that may change as I get more experience with it.
Lets face it, I like variety in the game, so I've tried a lot of ships and a lot of weapon types, depending on what I had available at the time. Most os them, I can learn to make do what I want them to do, so it turns out that MY favorite ship is whatever one I'm flying at the time.
P.S, Boss, if you sic your pet targ on me, my Horta will turn him into mint jelly. lol

lol yeah, those Hortas are dangerous!
It's good to try different ships.

really loving my fleet ( Enterprise C )

Those are all really nice looking ships.

I play a wide variety of ships, and am experimenting with the Science Destroyer now, but I always seem to come back to the Odyssey. While it doesn't hit the hardest as some escorts, it's great for an all around ship.
It also just has such a classic Star Trek look for 2409!

My favourite ships vary from what type of character i'm playing.
My tac's fly Jem Bug & Jem carrier escort.
my eng's fly the excel & assault cruisers
and my Sci's the new Dyson & of course Voyger
The game allows you to fly whatever ship you fancy that suits your characters abilities. As for one favourite ship, I cannot choose they are all great!

I like the subsystem targeting option on Science classes. I fly an Odyssey class now just because I had it around forever and they've added the Cruiser commands. I like the Cruiser commands and the ship can really take a beating. Even just distributing power back and forth seems to give me a lot of options.
My favorite class is the Nebula class and I've flown it since I got it from the C-Store a few years ago. I'm not happy with it, but it's my childhood dream to be assigned a Nebula. My favorite science class ship was actually the Luna class. A lot of maneuverability and good tactical options.
I've never figured out how to build loadouts for specific rolls, so keep in mind that I don't push my ships very hard and mostly use whatever equipment sounds good.

Only have a fed toon in STO, so my favourite ships since starting play in 2012 have been the Dreadnought, the Defiant, and now the Avenger. The c-store Avenger has been a beast and I've been loving it so far, but just now managed to pick up the fleet version and it's awesome with an A2B + DEM3 build.

I like flying my fleet Vor'cha. It does about as much dps as my tac ships thanks to an aux2bat beam build. I switched my romulan to a scimitar but it is a bit hard to fly just because it is so huge.

My favorite atm has to be the excellent Mogh, tanky with good DMG it only lacks advance science magix.

I currently have 3 favorites. but with the new traybinding, it,s easier than ever to swap so i expect the list to growth :
Fleet avenger for when i want to get up close and personnal: Nimble put resistant, and decent canon boat.
Chimera (future fleet chimera) : great for soloing, the transformation makes it a jack of a trade: pack a punch or go tank and retreat
And the one I motballed but I am glad to pull out : the AC, not the biggest hitter, but with some RCS she can hold her own in a fight and offer a nice balance of tanking and arrasing the ennemy. it goes great with the new Carrier commands.
I wish the Covertte was my flag ship, but I have yet to make a decent build of it

Just got the Fleet Chimera which brings a smile to my face :)
On my KDF side the Jem Dreadnought.

Do I even have to say it? Everyone knows I'm in love with Romulan ships.
My heart belongs to that smallest birdie of all, T'varo...
I've been flying it since LoR came, and never could replace it (bought almost every Romulan ship that's available in C-store).
Shooting "Big Orange" is always fun, although it took some practice on how to survive it :D
On second place there's that cocktail of escort and carrier, Ar'Kif and it's Focused Plasma beam...
It's still bugged and shuts down in middle of firing, but when it works, nothing can survive it!
T'varo is upgraded to Fleet version as soon as I got enough EC for FSM (grinding Summer Event), but Ar'Kif is still waiting for T3 Spire, and that one looks promising ;)

I play two fed toons, a Tac and an Eng. It's not for a lack of toon slots that I only play two, as I have a lvl 21 klink and two open slots, but there has been a TON of content added to the game since I started playing (April 2012) and I still haven't finished all four different rep sets for my primary.
That being said, my Tac has been flying the Elachi Escort until very recently, and I may go back to it soon. Having the ability to throw out a GW1 in a tac is awesome with aoe attacks, and with the elachi lobi space set 2-piece bonus and fleet tac consoles it does a serious bit of disruptor damage.
My eng is flying the Fleet Ambassador type cruiser. I was flying the fleet Nebula and throwing mad GW1+3, but with some proper consoles at last and a focus on disruptors the fleet Ambassador is an awesome boat. And I still get my GW.

Well, everyone who knows me, also knows I'm a Carrier-kinda Guy.
That love for Carriers started on my main Fed Toon with the Atrox, continued on my KDF Toon with the Kar'Fi and now as a I majorly play RRF (like 99,975% of the time), I need to subside with the JHDC, as the Romulans have no "big" Carrier with 2 Hangar Bays (Mesa don't liken dat, by da way).
I also LOVE the Romulan Dreadnought Warbirds. Especially their Drone Ships. :) After extensive experimentation, I still can't decide on either of them. They all have their Pros and Cons. For the moment, I use the Scimitar. However, that can be substituted anytime by a Tulwar. Should the RRF ever get a "big" Carrier, you can bet about me being one of the first to buy it. :)

Love my Prometheus class. Manoeuvrable, hard to hit, can take a pounding when it does, and packs a punch. Tore through a load of Undine ships like they weren't there the other day. Just wish I had the spare cash for the Multi Vector one off the C Store.

Just saving up fleet credits etc for fleet consoles to squeeze more power out of it.
Reply to Mountain6969ukFebruary 25, 2014 at 06:04 pm
My favorite ship so far is the Obsilek Carrier, but I'm planning on getting a different ship, the Odyssey, I always liked huge ships that can serve as flagships, but that might change depending on what they do for the fleet Admiral ships, since the developers are suppose to finish the next 2 ranks this month.

My favorite ship has always been the Excelsior. I've loved that ship since I first saw it in ST III. I always wanted to command *the* Excelsior...but on Dec. 7, 1991 (a date that lives in infamy for me) Sulu crushed that for me. Never lost my love of the ship class though.

My Galor, hands down the most fun, mk xii Jem set, phased LOLaron, aww yiss
Reply to SatchmokFebruary 26, 2014 at 09:17 am
Currently I have to say for the sheer look its my Mirror Heavy Cruiser, and only because I was lucky enough to get into the ship tailor and fit the Constellation saucer before they took it away in the last patch. It looks awesome!
Second favorite has to be Fleet Excelsior refit with an Aux2bat build.
I'd love the Fed Dreadnought to be in my list but its just so weak. I still love its looks though and SOOOO wish they'd revisit it.
Third favorite. The Galor. That things just ...mean! lol
Honorable mention to my Mobius Destroyer. Thats is also mean :)

I love 2 ships. The first one is the vesta class (can equip cannons, good turn rate, hangar bay available, love his design...).
The other is the voth palisade science vessel because it's a monster in PvP with my "vampire" configuration. He can shut down all sub-systems and have got a good tanking hull.
February 28, 2014 at 11:20 am
Me and a few friends are virtually cultists when it comes to our devotion to the Fleet Nova (Fleet Science Vessel Retrofit). That little lady turns on a dime, has a balanced console layout equivalent to the engineering (Strategic) Vesta, and the boff seating is superb with its LTC tac as the icing on the cake (Torp Spread 3 from a science frigate is beyond ridiculous, but that's STO for ya). I divide my time with it and the Fleet Intrepid with the occasional dive into my Khyzon Andorian sciscort (I wish there was a true Andorian-style sci ship).
The Vesta gets a lot of praise, perhaps too much so. Sure, she's a fine ship with the cannons and the hangar bay gimmick, but I think these new Dyson Sci Destroyers are really promising and exciting. Since I got my freebie Fed Dyson, I've scored 1st place on every Crystal Entity Elite pug run, with only one time getting 3rd when I got careless. The key is building the ship to its strength: proton. People hate that the heavy proton cannon can't be removed, but I say that's an advantage since there are many ways to boost its damage and it has great synergy with the Exp. Proton Weapon from Dyson rep. I think I will purchase the Fed Dyson pack soon. The Helios will likely be my go-to dream sci ship for a long time to come.
On the KDF side, I absolutely love the Fleet Mogh (Worf, you wily genius!) with Aux2Bat+DEM3.
For my Reman tac, there is no substitute for my Fleet Daeinos Warbird. I will fly the Daeinos over a fleet Mogai or Dhaelan anytime. I guess I'm just a sucker for transforming ships with graceful curves and lots of agility. ;-)

I'm still pretty new to STO but the B'rel class Bird-of-Prey has been one of my favorites since long before STO existed. As for ships I've used in the game, I'd have to go with the Negh'Var. I always have been the type of player to run out in the middle of the map and draw the enemy's attention while everyone else shoots them in the back and the Negh'Var is perfect for that.

I am liking the KDF ships. The Mogh is a good ship. Wish we would get a fleet Grumba

I have just bought Fleet Avenger Battlecruiser. I was flying in Dyson Cruiser and Avenger is a step up. Right now I am deciding which combination of weapons are best for me. I am usig tetryons now but ... it is another topic.

At the moment, I like the Dreadnought cruiser, the Galaxy class all good thing version.
I like it a lot. running it with a torpedo platform and doing some testing. the lance weapon comes handy when there are no shield around on enemy ship.
And 2nd is the Avenger Battle cruiser with Polaron setup. impressive ship.
