Ending the Iconian Story
Captain's Blog Stardate 92825.07
Well it looks like Cryptic wants to bring this Iconian story to an end. Their upcoming fleet action involves bringing the fight to the Iconians. Plus this Delta Recruitment event is using the premise of getting officers to fight the Iconians. Is this the wisest move?
The story won't end tomorrow. Frankly I can see them dragging it out to next year, but what happens when the Iconian story ends. Will it ever really end? Can it end? Here's what I expect to happen. We're going to make our way to the Gamma Quadrant where we'll run into the Dominion again and possibly gain them as an ally against the Iconians. Although I can see them joining forces with the Iconians as well. Either way, Gamma Quadrant exploration is a real possibility before this story ends.
Currently the Iconians represent the strongest force in the galaxy. To defeat them we would not only need to work together but also develop new technology. That could be a very long road ahead of us. Even if we accomplish that, can we defeat them?
For the sake of argument let's say yes. In all honesty, when have the good guys ever truly lost in Star Trek? Sure there have been moments, but in the grand scheme of things the good guys always win. My thinking is that the Iconians are so mysterious and powerful that even if we win, they'll return.
Assuming for the moment that we win and they don't return, what's next? Does Cryptic introduce a new villain? If so, who? The Kelvins from the Andromeda galaxy? Someone completely new? Everyone goes back to fighting with each other? There are a done of possibilities right now and who knows what Cryptic is thinking. Personally I don't know what I want to happen. If you have any thoughts on the STO story please share it in the comments.

Well, it seems like they are setting us up to fight against the Heralds, and other minions on the Iconians. (Though, it is unclear if we are fighting Iconian ships. And even if so, are they ships built by the Iconians long ago, and crewed by the Heralds?
I wouldn't get too worried that we will finish off the Iconians, I mean how many times has the Borg Queen been killed, but the Borg keep turning up!

Perhaps they are tying up the loose ends because they see the writing on the wall that the game is dying and this represents the build up to the season finale
All good things.

I can't help but hope that maybe the story developers will start tying events in with the new movies' alternate timeline a bit more, maybe even bring in some more characters and VAs from the shows. For example, an appearance by Robert Beltram or Kate Mulgrew as Chakotay and Admiral Janeway respectively, or Patrick Stewart as Ambassador Picard.
Heck, maybe even bring in the new timeline directly via the Iconians' messing around. Come on, who's up for seeing a story mission that goes backwards and sideways in time? I'd be up for an encounter with the "new" USS Enterprise.
Anyway, my point here is this: with Leonard Nimoy's passing, and many of the other icons of Star Trek reaching their later years, things are going to have to start being passed on to the "next generation" of actors and actresses--Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Karl Urban just to name the new Triumvirate's actors. STO might as well give it a try. They've got a few "winks" to the new timeline so far. Maybe there'll be more to come.
