February 2013 Ask Cryptic

Captain's Blog Stardate 90737.87

This week the latest Ask Cryptic came out and of course many players were asking about the May update to Star Trek Online. I don't want to get into too much speculation about the May update so I'm going to hold off on that until next week. For now I just want to quickly go over some of the things in the latest Ask Cryptic. Most of them are features that we know will be coming in May.

The user interface for the character creation system is getting revamped. This doesn't mean we'll be getting more uniform options though. It just means that the way the character creation looks and works will be changing. They are going to be reviewing all mission rewards and updating some of them in order to make replaying missions more rewardable. If you ask me Fleet Marks should be given for every mission as long as a team of 2 or more is playing it.

All subscribers to the game (gold members) will be getting additional benefits and perks. Unfortunately they didn't tell us what these are yet, so we'll just have to wait. Traits are being overhauled so we might be getting a re-trait token too. Again, not too many details were given but it sounds like we'll be able to alter player and bridge officer traits. Don't quote me on that though, I'm just speculating.

Apparently a new type of gear is coming too and it'll have a socketing system. For those that don't know, a socketing system allows you to equip different items in order to improve gear. Other games and MMOs have this so it would be interesting to see STO have this as well.

There is other interesting information in this Ask Cryptic as well so as always I suggest reading it. These are just confirmed features for the May update. Make sure you come back next week to read my blog. I'll be talking about my thoughts of the May update which Cryptic is no longer calling Season 8.

Leave your comments below about this week's Ask Cryptic and what you think about these upcoming features!

Socketing sounds good - tweaking our top end gear, making it fit better to our style of playing. Just hope it's balanced........
