Frozen - Review

Captain's Blog Stardate 88748.17

Sorry for the late blog post. I was away for the weekend and couldn't play through the mission until today. I enjoyed this week's mission. Frozen had a nice attempt at wild life (the mastiffs and spiders) and the storyline was really nice. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that it felt like more of the same. Having faction specific objectives is nice, but I don't think it needs to be in every mission. In my opinion it felt forced in this mission. Don't get me wrong, it was very well done and if it wasn't there I would probably be saying "hey where is the faction specific content?". Still, I think we could have done without it in this mission. What I really liked was the choice at the end. Depending on what you decided affected who your enemy was before you beamed out. I must admit, I prefer the Romulans as my enemy. They seemed easier to defeat. The mission also gave the impression that the Romulans are a divided people and that the Remans want independence. This reminded me of a discussion I had on the STO forums. Basically it was about how a Romulan faction would work. There were a few different suggestions one of which was this: Since the Romulans are divided we would have the Romulan playable faction consisting of the Romulans, Remans, Hirogen, and other races. Then we would have playable Romulans for both the Federation and Klingon factions. It would be explained that these Romulans are either refugees or part of a group that didn't want to be a part of the new Romulan Empire. So this week I would like your opinions on the Frozen mission as well as what I just talked about for a Romulan faction.

I thought it was a great mission. Had some good elements but I wasn't entirely convinced by the storyline. I will the choice was a good one. I went with the Remans as allies.

I think, this episode is vedry hard to play even in normale mode. I'm Lt. Level 3 with Stanard Light Cruiser. And the D'deridex Battleship is just unfair for my level!

I'm curious, how is it unfair? The ship is roughly the same level as you and is just as strong as any Klingon/Orion/Naussican ship you've fought.

I must point out, however, that any of you who have played through the episodic missions as a klingon-faction character will see that Cryptic has butchered the klingon empire with options such as "treat these miners better or I will be back" and "I dont agree with your ways but I wont try to stop you/surrender and I will see your treated fairly"
Gah! I hope they dont make romulans a playable faction for a VERY long time unless their writers actually sit down and watch all of star trek.
Remove the story, however, and this mission isnt as exciting as other ones have been. Though from a federation perspective the mission is ok, though Cryptic butchers both romulan and reman dialogue throughout the whole series.

To be fair, its not that the writers have a lack of knowledge about Star trek, it has to do with the same mission being available to two completely opposite factions. Its not easy coming up with a story that makes sense for two different factions, while keeping in mind that it needs to make sense for a third faction as well.

That would be cool to have a Romulan faction, by the way on STO WIKI, in the character builder section it gives you how-to steps to create 100% authentic Romulan boff from the charcter customizer. A faction would be a logical step in the game's progression. If you look the Galactica (my hotrod)up he is my XO named Remeck.
