Improving the Foundry

Captain's Blog Stardate 92786.82

Certain aspects of Star Trek Online are definitely improving. Two things that I really like is the upcoming sector maps and the foundry missions that appear when you approach a system. The updated sector maps will bring tons more systems to the game, each will be usable in the Foundry. So now I get the feeling that they are trying to give the Foundry a really good push so that players will have easy access to it and have more content to play.

Now I think we can all agree that Foundry missions aren't exactly new content. Don't get me wrong, some of those missions are amazing! I've played really great ones, but unfortunately they cannot reach the quality that the developers can. That's just a limitation of the Foundry... but I'm getting off topic.

My point being, they want players to use the Foundry more often and I agree. What they need to do is tie the Foundry into holodecks. Maybe let players "download" these missions, which would essentially be a save/bookmark feature. Then when they are at any holodeck in the game they can just load the mission. No need to go to the system. With this, they could also add a holodecks to our ship interiors. Maybe that would be another reason for us to visit our bridges.

In addition, they really need to bring back the "Foundry Spotlight". Perhaps when a mission reaches a certain number or reviews and has a certain rating level it can be automatically eligible for review as a "Foundry Spotlight" mission.

Of course, aside from that, the Foundry itself needs some work. There are a lot of features that need to be added, but I won't go into that now. All I'll say is that they need to make these features a priority. Anyway, what I would like to know from all of you is how else Cryptic could give Foundry missions more exposure to the players.

Well, I think Cryptic should take the best foundry missions, (get approval from the authors to use them) make any updates that need to be done, and put them in an Exploration Episode arc. (Like the Romulan Mystery arc)
They would be full episodes, just made by players, and updated by Devs. (Devs still seem to have better tools, and might be able to tweak some things.)
