Into the Hive

As you may or may not be aware, we are finally getting a new STF (Special Task Force) mission. If you haven't played an STF yet, these are missions which require 5 players to work as a team in order to defeat the Borg. A new one is coming called Into the Hive and it sounds like it will be very interesting.

The most basic summary of the mission sounds amazing. You go into a Borg unimatrix and fight the Borg Queen. Try and tell me you aren't the least bit interested. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find too many details about it so if you know of any just post them below.

There is one down side to all of this. Into the Hive has been a work in progress for well over a year. Cryptic has been talking about it for a long time but never really released it. Here is my opinion on all this.

When the STFs were first released they weren't the most popular missions. It was difficult to get a 5 players together, and even harder to complete the mission. At the time it was separated into ground and space missions. It was always one long mission, first space then ground. It took a long time to complete and players weren't too happy with it.

Then Cryptic released the first featured series and everyone was thrilled. Players loved it and wanted more. So Cryptic focused their efforts on new featured episodes. Let's not get into that can of worms right now since there is a whole history with that as well.

Anyway, Cryptic finally revamped the STFs. They were split into two separate missions (ground and space), and given a queue so it would be easier to find a team. Now people began to enjoy the STFs more often. They also gave us some nice rewards. What's not to love? Now that players have finally accepted these missions and they are being played often, Cryptic decided to get back on track with Into the Hive.

So what do I predict? Since Cryptic is actually testing this game internally, I think it will be available by the end of the year. Let's hope my prediction is correct so we can all go and defeat the Borg Queen!
