Jail Break
Captain's Blog Stardate 89781.34
Let me start by saying that I like Facility 4028, I'm talking about the actual station, not the mission. The designers did a good job making it look and feel like a real Federation prison. The guards looked great and I would love to have a uniform option like that.
I do have some issues with the mission. This is supposed to be a prison and it seems like there are no defenses. For starters, how did Kar'ukan beam in with his Jem'Hadar unnoticed? Last I remember, the Jem'Hadar don't have ship cloaking technology which means they should've been spotted when they entered the system and been attacked by orbital defenses.
Second, if he could just beam in and out, why not just beam out the Founder? Also, that Vorta (Eraun?) had Jem'Hadar with him, how did sensors not detect them beaming in? It doesn't seem to be a very secure facility. I guess these are just some plot holes in the mission which probably should have been thought about. The fighting was good, but it just felt like more of a "kill X amount" type thing which is kind of boring. I'm not saying that the combat wasn't good or fun, but it just felt like more of the same.
So far this series hasn't impressed me much. I like the idea behind the story, its very creative. Those ships returning from the wormhole after all these years and having them take over DS9 is a great idea. The story actually progressed really well and I could see this being a TV episode (or 2). I can't blame Cryptic for the story because it is a good one. I just feel like it wasn't implemented well.
I guess this is just like a regular Star Trek TV series, you have your favorite episodes and you have those that you can do without. I hope the last episode of this series makes up for everything. It looks like EV suits are going to be implemented and we'll probably end up on DS9's hull to do something. I really hope that there is an awesome space battle that we can take part of before and/or after the whole EV suit/DS9 hull thing. I'm looking forward to getting the EV suit because it is something that's never been implemented before.
Let me know your thoughts on Facility 4028!

Maybe it was just the relief at having something interesting to instaed of walking back and forth for an hour as we did in "Of Bajor," but I actually enjoyed the episode. I had mixed feeling at the end, because it was screaming out for some sort of space battle beyond just passively watching the cut scene at the end. On the other hand, it was nice to be able to finish the mission in aT reasonable amount of time. Speaking of cut scenes, I wish we had the option of exiting from them once we've done the mission the first time. I have a number of toons and got a little tired of having to sit through the cut scenes over and over again.
As for the plot holes, I treated them like the scene in "Raiders of the Lost Ark' where Indiana Jones somehow manages to hide on the German submarine as it travels halfway across the Mediterranean, navigates into a cave, and prepares to dock, without anyone in the conning tower ever noticing the extra passenger on the deck. As long as the action moves fast enough to keep you distracted, you can suspend a lot of disbelief without any trouble at all. That said, I had trouble swallowing the ease with which the prisoners got out of their cells just because some Jem'Hadar were beaming into the station. In most prisons, when there is a problem, everything locks down.
I liked the design of the facility. It was a nice change from the usual mission maps.
I'm looking forward to next week's finale.
