Kit Revamp
Captain's Blog Stardate 91868.66
Have you heard about the upcoming kit revamp? Essentially it will let you build your own custom kits. So you go out, get yourself a kit frame then buy modules which give you abilities. For example, you can get a MKXII frame which has 5 module slots, meaning you can give it 5 abilities.
Each career has two specializations and each kit is based on one of these specializations. For example, Engineers have Fabrication and Mechanic specializations. From what I understand, the slots on a kit will say which specialization it is and some of them will have a universal slot so you can put a module for either specialization. Make sense?
It's very similar to the way that consoles work for your ship. What this does is give players a new level of customization so we can better prepare for battle. We'll be able to easily switch modules when out of combat to adapt to the mission we're in. Also, old kits didn't really have complete rank III abilities but with these new kits you can do that.
One last thing. You'll be able to trade in your old kits for new ones. Well it said in the dev blog you can do that with fleet kits, but I assume it works for all of them as well.
So in the comments let me know what do you think about this? Is this just extra work for us to do are do you think these new type of customization will benefit players?

This sounds awesome, I'm all for anything that adds more customization to the game.

i tried tm a few weeks ago on tribble. my only complain is the current icons are not that clear - the same issue I have with fleet console. but I'm sure we'll get use to it. I will miss the current system that forced you to compromise and learn new power. You never had all the power you wanted to you either learn how to use the one you didn't want/ care about or just play with a slight disadvantage.

Considering right now I switch between two kits, (Operative and Romulan Fire Team) I would like to keep a "Stealth kit" where I can hide, but fight if I need to, and a "Assault kit" for when I am just needing to kill first, ask questions later. So yes I think that the new kits will work for me.

Finally had the chance to test it on Tribble yesterday and I am sooooooo happy. Already have an evil customized Engineering Kit in mind. *muahahahaha*

I have a question....What happens to the other specialised kits? I have the borg medical kit that I have been saving for my science character. Will that be usable still? I hope so. I paid a lot for it!

As far as I can tell, we'll still be able to use our old kits. However it's still better to use the new system since you'll be able to have better abilities.

A dev had stated that the old kits will stay the same and we can keep using them just as we can now, so your borg kit will still work right. Also in the new system, you should be able to create your own equivalent to the borg kit as has been said by a dev here. http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showpost.php?p=15997791&postcount=214

With the new kit system, if you have all purple kit modules equipped in a fleet kit, it will be the equivalent of having 5 Mk IV powers in your kit. http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showpost.php?p=15794521&postcount=124

"All Fleet Kits have been updated with one "Dual" slot. For example, the Fleet Medic kit now contains 4 Medic module slots and 1 Science module slot. The dual slot can fit either a Research OR a Medic module." http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showpost.php?p=15968411&postcount=191
