May 2013 Ask Cryptic
Captain's Blog Stardate 91025.09
Before I get into the latest Ask Cryptic I just have to ask... how many of you are annoyed with the maintenance that STO has been going through lately? Personally I'm not bothered by it because it usually happens while I'm busy doing something else anyway. I do know that there has been some complaints about it so I'm just wondering what all of you think.
Now that we got that out of the way, let's see what we have in May's Ask Cryptic. As I mentioned in previous blogs, in June fleets will be getting a new holding. We'll also be getting an announcement about the Scimitar class ship for Romulan players. I have a feeling this is going to be released similar to the Odyssey, Bortas, Vesta, and Kumari. The same ship released 3 times with slightly different slots. I'm expecting it to cost 2500 zen each or all 3 in a pack for 5000 zen.
Speaking of new ships, we'll also be seeing a Romulan Temporal vessel and eventually the Fleet Galaxy X (after they get the saucer separation working correctly on it).
Within the next few months we should be seeing Romulan versions of the 1000 day veteran reward. That's good news for all of you who have access to it. Something I'm really excited about is hearing that they are working on remastering more of the older episodes. The Federation ones which were available when the game was released are really starting to look old when compared to the new content. All of them need major overhauls. Frankly I'd be perfectly happy if that was part of a Season update.
Something else that peeked my interest was the mention of a new kit system. I heard a rumor that they want to have customized kits. So instead of buying 1 kit with 4 abilities, you can buy 4 kits and each one has a different ability. That lets you mix and match the abilities which work best for you. So I really hope this rumor is true and that we get to see it before the end of the year.
Something that got me thinking was a question about Suliban bridge officers. The answer is that it is highly likely we'll get to see Suliban BOffs which I think is really cool. Since they were introduced in the Romulan storyline it got me thinking... what if the Suliban were added as a playable species only for the Romulan faction. The reason I say only for the Romulans is because the Federation and KDF have plenty of their own species and the Romulans only have three. I would very much like to hear your thoughts on this if nothing else.

I would gladly buy the fleet Galaxy X if it features universal boff slots, or 3 tac boff slots. Then, it will be a dreadnought.
Regarding the Scimitar, I'm a little skeptical, because everyone is going to get it, and I hope they don't make it have the thalaron reactor weapon, otherwise...

I have only one issue with the maintenance, and that is, Mail...
I still cannot delete any of my exchange sales (and my mail box is full of them) although I can delete messages from other players! But its a minor Grumble, I still love the game!

Problem I'm having for weeks now is that' my launcher won'y connect so I can't get the updates or log in. In the past I have downloaded the latest version from a link in the forums but now that link seems broken since I get always the same version. Maybe some colleague from the Fleet can post the latest launcher so I can connect ;)

The mail thing happened a few years back after another expanison of sorts. They took a week or so to clear it up.
As to a Scimitar ship, I really don't want to see a thalaron weapon. That would be just too much power, especially bought from a micro-transaction.
I would like to ask though, is there any talk of elite mode Romulan STF's?

The term STFs only applies to the Borg PvE missions which we already have in normal and elite.
I'm not sure if there are any talks about other elite fleet actions. Anything is possible though.

Im hoping the scimitar is the 1000 day verteran ship. But knowing money hungry cryptic as we do, its will most likely be a 3 ship pack...

I think maintenance is a good thing, but I wish it would actually fix some of the issues that seem to be permanently broken. For example, and admittedly this is trivial, I've still got characters and boffs suffering from the linked colors bug in the costume designer.
