More Sci-Fi in STO

Captain's Blog Stardate 91427.1

So you may or may not have read one of the most recent dev blogs (http://sto.perfectworld.com/news/?p=1014021). It's supposed to be a log entry of a Romulan researcher on New Romulus who is studying an Iconian gateway that was found there.

After months of study and efforts between all 3 factions, they are ready to send people through the gateway, and thus Stargate is born! So here's my assumption. The gateway is used to transport people to a safe location but something goes wrong and they're sent to a Dyson sphere. Maybe these people get killed, they discover something amazing, and/or we just want to explore the sphere. Now all 3 factions are using the gateway to send teams through it so they can do some explorations.

Sounds like Stargate if you ask me. I call the name SG1! Now I just need a nerdy scientist, a cute blonde, and a badass alien to go through the gate with me.

I'd just like to point out that this isn't the first time that STO has a crossover with other sci-fi franchises. The nanopulse lirpa and batleths are essentially lightsabers from Star Wars, and the Aegis ship set makes it look something out of Tron. Now we have stargates lol. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, I just find it (as Spock would say) fascinating.

Anyway, let's get back on topic. I don't think this theory has been confirmed yet, but a featured episode is coming October 31st which will kick off the story for the Dyson sphere. If I'm right, we'll see a travel through the gateway go horribly wrong and we'll be there to clean up the mess.

Do you think my idea is accurate? Do you have a different idea? Do you want to be the cute blond on my SG1 team? Let me know in the comments below!

Hmm, I think I'd rather be your Cameron Mitchell on the team instead of the cute blonde!

I'm not sure if they will link up to a disaster, or just link to the sphere and find there is too much to explore for the Romulan Republic's resources. (So they have to reach out to their Fed and KDF buddies!)

What I'm curious about is if we will ever be outside the Dyson Sphere. (As the footage we have seen is all inside the sphere.)
Perhaps one of the things we are searching for is an exit so we can also explore this portion of the Delta Quadrant...

Looking forward to finding out-

Chris

Sounds like an idea for Season Nine, or maybe Season Ten. Cryptic seems to like to take things one step at a time, which is not a bad idea in a lot of ways. Speaking of taking one step at a time, has anyone heard anything about Beta Testing of the Dyson Sphere. Usually STO has some kind of testing done to work the bugs out of its new content before they release it. Now, when they make one fo the two biggest leaps forward in their history, they seem to be skipping Beta Testing altogether.

Iconian Gateways existed before Stargate.

Though the Ship Sized ones are made up for STO.

Didn't the Stargate movie come out before Star Trek mentioned Iconian Gateways?

The Iconians and their Gateway were first mentioned in the TNG episode "Contagion", which was aired March 20th, 1989. The Stargate movie premiered October 28, 1994.

The ship sized ones existed in a few Star Trek fandom properties before their use in STO. I know the PbEMS Bravo Fleet used them (http://wiki.bravofleet.com/index.php?title=Iconian_Gateway) and the New Voyages episode "In Harm's Way" featured a ship size Guardian of Forever.

Nothing in life is completely original or wasn't thought up by someone else too.

As for the original post, I'm still not through all the main storyline missions on any faction (been playing since F2P and just can't get to them) so I'll probably have to wait a while to get to these new featured missions.

Testing is always done on the Tribble test server and is going on right now. Last I heard, only gold members have access to Tribble.

Speaking of testing, I just ran the Juret mission in an Obelisk Carrier with upgraded antiproton beams and tricobalt torpedoes. My time to finish all five runs was under half an hour. My Chimeras, Chels, Dreadnaughts and my Advanced Escort normally take about thirty-five minutes and my other cruisers, including the Odyssey take at least forty-five to fifty minutes.

The swarmers that come with the Obelisk seem to pack quite a punch and they also seem to be able to slow down the AI's escorts to make them easier to hit with my big guns.

All in all, I think the Obelisk is the best free ship STO has given us.

Oops, the missions I ran were the Japori ones, not Juret. The reported results are for Japori .
