New ESD Interior
Captain's Blog Stardate 91810.24
The Tribble test server was patched this week with some upcoming Season 9 features. I logged on this weekend to check out the new Earth Space Dock and I'm impressed! If you get the chance, check it out but in the meantime here are my thoughts.
It's massive! It feels so much bigger and more like how the interior of ESD would be. You beam into the transporter room and the first thing you see is a window that overlooks the entire interior of the station and more windows which let you see inside ESD where the ships are docked.
My only issue with it is that it feels like a giant maze, but I guess that's what makes it feel more realistic. There are a bunch of rooms, corridors, and sections to check out. Everything that was there, still is, but it's upgraded and looks fantastic. Cryptic is really taking an interest in overhauling the game and improving the quality.
As it stands right now, the interior isn't 100% complete. Some things are still missing but the basics are there. If you haven't checked it out yet, let me know if you think changing the interior is a good idea. If you have looked at it then leave a comment with your thoughts on it.

May I give a warning this is a weapons free zone, no damage (unless Klingons invade) but it gets annoying after a while, but it looks nice!

It's an effective post for ESD. I read the hole post.I have some experience in ESD testing and I wnt to share it.there are few model about ESD testing.
1. Human Body Model (HBM) :
The HBM test characterizes the susceptibility of an electronic device to damage from electrostatic discharge (ESD) induced by human handling. The model is a simulation of the discharge which might occur when an electrostatic charged human touches an electronic device.
2. Machine Model (MM) :
This model simulates the incidents of electrostatic discharge that might occur through automated handling equipment or hand-tools and the electronic device to ground.
3. System Level Electrostatic Discharge :
System level electrostatic discharge is carried on an assembled board, or complete system to simulate the ESD incidents that might occur after assembling the electronic device to the board or system.

Well, it sure is massive but imho surprisingly intuitive. I didn't felt it to be a maze at all, but maybe that is just me.
All in all, it does make ESD feel more real.
If you can't get on Tribble, there are some screenshots of the new ESD on the STOA Forum. Please note, that it is still a work in progress and only take a peek, if you don't mind the spoiler: http://forum.stoacademy.com/showthread.php?tid=1629

It looks nice but once again like all ships you want to make everything small and a space station is not small!!! The ships with only a bridge with no access to any other parts of the ship are short cuts which everyone complained about and now you going to do the same thing to the ESD!! Now you took the ESD which felt big and turn it in to a 1/4 or what it was! Again it looks nice but why do to still want to shink everything! With 50-75 players in a zone at once if going to feel crowded and cramped! the old shipping area was much better! i feel that it's another BIG step backwards from what the player want! PLEASE STOP SHIRKING EVERYTHING! IF YOU WANT TO CORRECT SOMETHING FIX THE 80' TALL CEILINGS AND FIX THE SHIPS SO YOU CAN WALK AROUND YOUR SHIP NOT JUST ON THE BRIDGE! IT LOOKS NICE BUT I WOULDN'T WANT IT IN THE GAME UNLESS IT'S SOME OTHER STATION AND NOT THE ESD!

I'm not sure what game RoyKirk211 is playing, but IMHO the compromise between playability (useability) and realism works well in STO in the design choice to have a bridge and 2 decks. There isn't even enough content to fill what personal interiors we have now, so mostly they exist only to appease people who want to be able to walk the ship. I totally agree that the ship interiors need redesign (80ft ceilings suck).
I actually am one of the people who hate starbases because of how much running you have to do to get anywhere. 39-Sierra is a tiny station, but takes forever to walk, reducing it sounds good to me.
In my mind, just because I don't get to see the rest of the station doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It's that tradeoff between function and 'accuracy'.
The Belfast bridge is as close to screen accurate/realistic as I could manage in the game with the current camera setup, but with any more than a few people vising the map, it's too cramped.

Like everyone I hate the 80 ft celling but it is needed to allow better camera control and to improve the view (else as a 3rd person we would only see our toons head)
Roykirk you can go to engineering, sick bay, the lounge(aka ten-forward) transport room, science lab, your captain bed room and ready room.

Truthfully I want to see for interiors Escort, Cruiser, and Science ship interiors, each one different from the rest

I agree with JayHayesSTO. One thing that I did not learn when I started the game was that a specific class was designated to be the best with a specific ship. There need to be more differences between Escorts and Cruisers and Sci Ships, to enforce this idea without any extra effort and explanation having to be given. However, on your comment, I agree with that bridge idea.

The differences are already there. If you look at the science, tactical, and engineering console slots and bridge officer stations, you'll notice they usually favor the career they are designed for.
Also, I don't think Cryptic wants players to feel forced to use a certain ship based on their career. Personally I disagree with that entire idea. Anyone can fly any ship and be 100% successful.
