New Romulus
Captain's Blog Stardate 90450.44
Last week I reviewed Into the Hive and the Romulan Embassay. This week I'd like to talk about New Romulus. Believe me when I say that you will like it. The map is extremely large and there is a lot to do. When you start playing it, you will need to walk to all the locations and use the transporter consoles in order to transport there later on. Yup, that means you can't just transport to any area right away, you need to visit it first. Don't worry, it isn't a waste of time.

Each location has a mission you can undertake so while you are doing that and gaining Romulan Marks for the reputation system, you can also complete the transporter mission. The missions seem to be fairly simple and easy so far. The environment is amazing. You have mountains, streams, various plant and animal life, ruins, and more that I probably haven't even seen yet. There are even areas which you cannot access until you've reached higher tiers in the Romulan Reputation, which I think is nice. This means that there will be much more for you to discover and explore than just what you can see at the beginning.

Don't think this is all fun and games though. On this planet there are Tal Shiar agents who are trying to sabotage everything and you'll have to battle them. There are also Tholians in EV suits. Just when you think that's all of it, you'll get attacked by wildlife (including insects!). So on New Romulus there is enough combat and non-combat to make it an exciting place. I truely believe it can be an area that will keep people interested for a long time, especially those who want more to do at level cap.

Overall I'm very impressed. I had a feeling of true Star Trek when running through New Romulus. It felt like exploration, danger, and fun that was all rolled up together. This has to be by far the best map Cryptic has created for the game. If you can't check it out while it is on Tribble then you definitely need to when it is released on Holodeck. Let me know your thoughts!

I have to agree with you in all aspects. New Romulus is awesome! But while I was playing the "A lending Hand" mission I couldn't help it, I felt like Cryptic was ripping off your "The Survey" Foundry missions. :)

Haha you know what's funny, while I was doing that I thought the same thing. It really felt like an improved version of The Survey. I thought it was just my ego, but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one.

I have enjoyed my time on New Romulus during the Tribble test event. The artists have had a field day with the environment. Plenty of repeatable missions. It's nice, after 3 years (?), to interact with Romulans in a way that doesn't involve incinerating them (well, except for the tal shiar...:) .
