Reputation Changes
Captain's Blog Stardate 91848.44
What do you think about this new upcoming reputation system redesign? Don't know what I'm talking about? I'll explain.
In one of the dev blogs this week, AdjudicatorHawk talked about these changes. Essentially they feel that because they plan on adding many more reputation abilities, it's time to limit what you can use. Otherwise players who are just starting out will be at a disadvantage. Imagine if we have 25 reputations and veteran players have everything from them, but someone new has none. There's no balance.
So this new update to the system will make them work like traits. You get to pick and choose which to use and you can change them at any time like your bridge officers. You'll have four ground passive slots, four space passive slots, and four active slots. The passive abilities are the ones you earn between tier 1 - 4 of any reputation. So you'll unlock all of them and be able to use only four ground and four space out of all your reputation abilities.
The active abilities are the ones you earn at tier 5. You'll only be allowed four active ones. They can be all space, all ground, two space and two ground, or anything you want. As I said, you can change them at any time. So you can slot four space when doing a space mission, and four ground when doing a ground one. The choice and freedom is yours!
This idea has been growing on me. It makes sense and gives players more of a reason to strategize with their build. Now you'll need to think what your goal is for your build and what's the best way to achieve that. I look forward to playing around with this new system and experimenting with what does and doesn't work for me.
In the comments let me know your thoughts on these changes!

I'm okay with it, has long as we can save the choice with a build. Otherwise it means depending on what you want to do you'll have to reselect your option which goes counter to what we've been offered lately.
And I don't mind the new option has they will be more powerful and allow for more diversity. Anyway I always forgot to use the ground Active ones

There is one additional major change (Season 9 Dev Blog #3) - reputation projects won't need any esoteric items anymore. Just marks, XPs, ECs and for equipment - special tokens you earn doing special runs (BNPs, Voth Cybernetic Implants, etc.) No more running to vendors to spam your inventory with tons of hypos.
Also, there won't be store unlocks anymore, nor XI equipment, costumes unlocks.
AND! We'll see some sets improvements.

I don't know about this. I for one don't like doing massive STF's. I like doing things by myself. For instance all the romulan and Omega reps I have gotten were from solo content. If we cant play solo and still get access to the equipment, I am afraid it is a deal breaker for me.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

The way you earn reputation marks will still be the same way. All that's changing is how the abilities you earn from them will work. Instead of using every ability you chose, you'll unlock all of them and then slot 12 of them for actual use, just like traits.

I agree with Helock Sholmes, as long as we can save these builds then Im good with this concept. Also it does make you think / plan on how this build will develop in conjuction with your game style and ship builds. Interesting times lay ahead :)

So guess there isn't much of a perk for being a veteran anymore. But mostly think Perfect World is doing it just so they have another way of charging you zen to change something. It's all about the money.

What do you mean? The reputation system is the same for everyone, whether or not you're a veteran. As a matter of fact they will be losing money now that we won't have to pay for choosing new rep abilities.
