Revisiting Interiors

Captain's Blog Stardate 91465.56

Since Cryptic talked about this in a recent blog I figured I should revisit the age old topic of custom ship interiors.

In the Federation Interiors Redesign dev blog, Jeff Miller talks about the new Fed ship interior we will see in the new Federation tutorial. If you've been on Tribble you may have seen it already. One important part that I noted in this blog is how he said the halls are built in sections so that they can easily be swapped. I immediately thought about the Foundry and custom ship interiors.

Let's get into the foundry first. A big issue with it is the innability to create custom interiors. Neverwinter's foundry has this feature and apparently some of features from it will be ported over to STO in the coming months. So I hope that custom interiors will be one of these features. If it is, this would mean tons more of unique missions from creators.

Along the same lines, the foundry could be used to create custom ship interiors. We could build entire decks for our ships and then let other players use it as well, or maybe just use it for yourself. Either way I think that would be great. I guess we'll see what happens in the coming months.

If this is the direction Cryptic wants to go in then it means creating a lot of different assets for the foundry to use within customize interiors.

My question for this week, if Cryptic would allow us to create customized ship interiors would you use the foundry to create your own? If so how big or small would it be? Would you want to see anything unique in it? Let me know!

You know yourself Attilio, this is something I have somewhat campaigned for since the foundry was announced, and the following blog post talking about bridges came about.

I would love this, as would many others! And my only hope is that they also bring in the possibility of changing the crew uniforms, which would only make it better!!

Aw, I cannot wait to see what we can do, and hopefully any engineering/crew decks won't just be stock decks!!

I know for a fact that I'd go all in with building a custom interior ship map. When Star Trek Elite Force came out I downloaded the GDK set and bought the blue prints to the Enterprise-D at the local comic shop. Spent the next 7 months building that entire ship inside the GDK. In game you could walk around for an hour or more and not see any other players.
