Ship Customization

Captain's Blog Stardate 91718.42

As I'm sure all of you know, there are many different space and ground sets in the game. One of the first sets was the Aegis and I remember hoping that they would create more, which they have. So far I like all of the sets and think they're great additions to the game and to give your ships a different look to them. For the purposes of this blog, I'm only going to talk about sets which have a shield, deflector, and/or impulse engine.

I only have one minor issue with these sets. I feel that the majority of players use or are trying to get the MACO/Omega/Honor Guard sets. Why? Simple answer, because the majority of players end up playing STFs and those pieces of equipment are great for the elite STFs. So here is what I'm wondering. Why doesn't Cryptic create more sets that are on par with the Maco, Omega, and Honor Guards sets? Give players some more freedom on how they setup their ships yet be just as effective in STFs as anyone else.

Along the same lines, space sets could work similar to the ground Maco/Omega/Honor Guard sets in the sense that they unlock uniform options. When you collect all three pieces of one of those ground sets (even the Adapted versions) you unlock a project in the reputation which you can complete to unlock the uniform options. These uniform options can then be used on your character, even if you don't have the set equipped. Perhaps they should do something like this for ships as well.

For example, if I have all 3 pieces of the Jem'Hadar space set, those ship options should be unlocked so I can make my ship look like a Dominion ship but have the MACO set equipped. Perhaps this would be a better option than making sets more effective in STFs. Cryptic is known for giving players a lot of options (as you can see by the massive number of uniforms and ships available to buy), so something like this would just give players more options. Could you imagine flying around with a Dominion ship skin and the Aegis engines while having the Omega kit equipped? Random I know, but at least it would be an option.

What do you think about these ideas? Do you use the MACO, Omega, or Honor Guard sets but wish you could look like a Reman or Dominion ship?

I do like the idea of space costumes. Not sure how in-depth they could take it, but I could see a few cool things done with this. Right now the ONLY set visual I use is the Borg Shield. Nothing else looks right, IMO, so I just disable it.

BTW, STF's can be super effective without running any set. Its really just about getting a shield out of the exchange that fits with your ship's build.

About the shield part I have discovered that running a covariant shield on a avenger is quite effective I can deal out more damage because my shields take more of a beating which then allows me to drop my shield power and allow more power to weapons engines and auxiliary. I personally favor this over sets considering the only covariant shield is the reman shield from missions/rep. system.

@Bruce, You're right about that, but the nice thing about sets is they provide some extra bonuses which could be useful. That's really the only reason I use the Adapted Maco on my main toon.

Amusingly, I'm running the Ferengi set in combination with a MkX Borg set on the Strategic Vesta (w/all consoles) class ship. That's one very oddball mixture, but it IS working rather well. The ship is so fast in warp that I don't even use the Quantum drive any longer.

Well, that actually reminds me of similar thing in other games... called Transmogrify or something like that.
That would be great thing to add in game, even if it came from Lockboxes, so we could change the look of set without actually being forced to have it in both as investing into it and equipped on ship.

I do wish there was more customization options in the game there are only to types of actual interiors the default and the Belfast type which is 2,250 zen I recently came across a system that was made before the foundry which you started with a turbolift and built your ship the way you wanted.
