Ship Management, So Cool
Captain's Blog Stardate 91677.52
I cannot wait for this whole ship management system to go live. It's probably the coolest feature to have ever come to Star Trek Online. Each ship can have a minimum of two load out slots which lets you save equipment, and bridge officers. Soon after it is released they'll set it up so it can even save your duty officers and power tray layout. This is amazing!
There are plenty of players out there who have multiple ships for multiple reasons. Personally, I have three ships that I'd love to easily switch between. In the STO Academy fleet we have flagships to represent each fleet within our family and I'd love to use them more often. A big reason why I haven't is because it was annoying to switch ships, setup equipment, BOffs, and powers. With this, I can use any ship at any time!
What I also like about this is the new quick equip feature. When you want to equip a new item to a slot, it'll show you all available items in your inventory, bank (not the account bank), and other ships. There have been a few times when I needed to click around in the ship selector, or go all the way back to a base just to see what equipment my other ships had. This definitely will make that much easier.
Finally there's the feature that lets you switch between any ship at any time. Now I'm not sure how I feel about this. I like the idea but at the same time what reason do I have to back to a starbase now? It just feels like stations are starting to become useless because they are giving us all these nice features that can be used anywhere. I don't need to go back to visit the bank because I can access all my equipment anywhere. I don't need to go visit the ship selector because I can change ships anywhere. Maybe I'm just worried over nothing.
Let me know what are your thoughts about all this. What's your favorite feature from this new system or perhaps least favorite?

Lately I have been switching between ships, trying out new ships I got from the fleet holdings. It is a real pain grabbing all the good gear off of one, dropping it into my inventory (IF IT FITS) and then dragging it over to the new ship. This new ability sounds like a real good deal to me. I think I will still go back to the starbase for the exchange and missions anyway. Can't wait to try it out.

I'm really looking forward to the change. I currently have over a hundred ships in service, another twenty or thirty commissioned but never used (because I don't have enough ship equipment to finish outfitting them) and another twenty or so still in the boxes (Risians, Obelisks and Support Cruisers), Now I can activate those ships without having to worry about spending tens of thousands of Dilithium or millions of ECs to equip them.
I can even bring back some of my older ships with newer and better equipment. I miss flying my Oddies, but their performance with the weapons and consoles I had for them just didn't match the newer ships in my fleet. I might even buy some ship slots to make room for some escorts to supplement my cruisers-heavy collection..

Greetings all,
At first I wasn't sure about the theme of switching ships in space, but the idea of the other ship warping in sounds cool. I have plenty of Boffs and Doffs, get them working driving those other ships around so I have them when I need them!
However, if you want to want to Quick-equip equipment from your bank, you will still need to go to ESD.
----
If you are at a starbase, Quick-Equip will allow you to move gear freely from bank to ship to ship. If you are not at a starbase, Quick-Equip will restrict you to the gear in your inventory and readied small craft, but it will still show you other potential gear you have stored in the bank or on another ship – that gear will just be grayed out. This allows you to know what other options you may have waiting for you. The Quick-Equip system also works when equipping your Captain and Bridge Officers in their status menus.
----
So, still a reason to go to ESD. I'm looking forward to the new changes!

Thanks for that! That's good, although now I'm afraid the transporter pads are going to be filled with people who don't need to visit the shipyard or bank! lol I just can't win.

I'm looking forward to this new feature myself! I might be able to fly some of the ships I've been keeping in moth balls now :)

is there any way to use more than 1 ship at a time during a mission?
