Skill Planner 5
Captain's Blog Stardate 90776.08
What an exciting and busy week for me. As most of you may know, I finished and release version 5 of the skill planner! At the beginning of February I decided it was time for the skill planner to be retrofitted. Many people had made requests and suggestions for new features and I really wanted to add them. Due to the way I originally designed it, these features were hard to add so I decided to start from scratch... a completely blank slate.
I won't bore you with all the details of what I did, but I will say that I'm very happy with what I created and it's thanks to your ideas, support, and constant use of this skill planner that made this happen. Version 5 is by far the best version of this skill planner so far. There have been a few questions and concerns that I'd like to quickly address.
First, unfortunately because of the new code and formats that I'm using for the planner, a lot of information from your old builds had to be removed when I converted the links into the new format. The basic information such as faction, career, rank, and ship were kept along with abilities that you selected and the skill tree (which is probably the most important). This means you'll have to go back and update your old builds with your bridge officer abilities and equipment (if you want). So if you see builds that are really empty, this is the reason.
Since the release on Friday I've been fixing bugs, correcting incorrect data, adding missing information, and adding new features. For example, now you have the ability to copy an item to another slot. So if you add a phaser beam * to one weapon slot, you can go to another weapon slot and copy it there. The same goes for consoles. I'll continue to add new features as time goes on. Two things I really want to add are the reputation system abilities, and active duty officers. I don't know when I'll get around to doing this, but it will happen.
Finally, I'm working on some updates for the build search (also known as the build sharing page). I understand that a lot of the builds are almost useless in the search page right now since they are nearly empty. I'm going to be removing all shared builds from the search in order to "clean it out" and reset the ratings to zero. Those builds WILL NOT be deleted, they just won't show up in the search. I'm asking everyone to update your builds and start sharing them again. This way we can be certain that other players get the most up to date and useful builds.
If you have any questions or comments leave them below. Please DO NOT post bug reports in the comments here. You can contact me through the contact page. Thank you.

Firstly, as a relative newcomer (been playing for just a month,) to STO, i thank you for such fantastic site and all the infinitely helpful information available here. I can't begin to say how much it's helped me. No MMO has really pulled me in before like this dangerously addictive game.
Now to the point, i don't seem to be able to access the build sharer pages, i was browsing earlier today to get some ideas and could use it fine, but today after selecting the options it says "page not found," damn Q, hopefully it will be back soon, as i'm right in the middle of respeccing my Captain, lol.
Thanks again for this invaluable site.
