First of all you're right, I don't know how you knew, but I love it! Really looking forward to using this in the future.

Great work!!

I'm stoked to use it for planning out the new skill system :D

I cant wait to get my hands on this, it looks excellent!
Reply to Nyxadrill1962March 28, 2016 at 07:36 am
It looks definitely more easier to use and will be a blast once it hits the site. Great job!!!
Reply to FiretrekkieMarch 28, 2016 at 09:05 am
Looks great, thx for the hard work!
Reply to BerryRJMarch 28, 2016 at 09:14 pm
Maybe a converter app that takes the old skills and shows how best to use the new skills to keep (nearly) the same effects and bonuses?
Reply to JonMarch 29, 2016 at 07:53 am
That would be very nice and useful. Unfortunately I don't think I'll have the time for something like that if I want to release this by April 12.

Looks nice, looking forward to use it. "Home of the Skill Planer" now in Version 6 :)

Your the man!!! We cant thank you enough for what you've done. Great work!

Boss, all I can say is, "WOW". Nice work, very nice work.

Looks way nicer! Can't wait.
Auto conversion of old v5 builds into v6, nerdgasm ;)
That's cool.
One suggestion I'd make while it's still in "alpha":
In screens/areas where you have the multiplier drop down lists for item mods, you're suffering from way too many drop down menu's syndrome.
Could you change the multiplier selection drop down lists to be a + and - button that you simply click to increase and decrease the modifier count?
Apart from removing half the drop down list boxes it would also make the page work far more easily on that responsive mobile/small screen layout you're working on.
Current v5 and v6 are clunky in that way if doing an item from 'scratch' with all the modifiers.
March 30, 2016 at 07:45 pm
The multiplier idea is good, although I don't know if I'm going to work on it yet. I still have other things to work on which are much more important, such as finishing the v5 conversion and responsive design.
The good thing is that in the long run, users won't have to use those drop downs as often as in v5.

Frankly, I liked the old version better. The new one stinks. It's ugly, too bright and hard on the eyes. Half the functions don't work, like saving or saving to file.
You had a planner that was fine the way it was and could have just updated the skills section and be done with it.
It would have been nice to at least have the option to keep using the old version. I know you said it's supposed to remain active until July 2016, but the link to the old one isn't working at all.
April 09, 2016 at 09:55 am
Sorry you don't like it. Unfortunately it's impossible to please everyone.
I may include an option to change the color scheme; however I don't have a time frame for that. Fun fact though, research shows black text on white is actually better for your eyes then white on black.
Saving does work. There was a small glitch when overwriting builds, but that has been fixed now. As for saving to files, you may need to unblock the popup.
Unfortunately the v5 skill planner was not fine. There were too many coding bugs which caused the site to crash when too many people were using the planner. Fixing them would've essentially been a total rewrite of the code anyway. Plus, the interface was too clunky, especially on mobile devices.
As for the v5 link, it should be working now. If not, try clearing your browser's cache. It's only there for viewing purposes. You can no longer create/edit/save builds http://www.stoacademy.com/tools/skillplanner5
April 10, 2016 at 01:39 am
Also, the old pop up menus aren't loading and I'm not using a blocker.
Reply to Sov42April 10, 2016 at 01:48 am
And the overwrite is still not working properly.
Reply to Sov42April 10, 2016 at 01:34 am
"research shows black text on white is actually better for your eyes then white on black."
However, some people are very sensitive to brightness and no amount of fiddling with screen settings can fix that.
April 10, 2016 at 12:00 pm
The old pop up menus? You mean in version 5? Everything is disabled, it's for viewing old builds only.
For the overwriting, I assume you the skills weren't loading correctly? That should be fixed now.
Everyone does have different sensitivity to different brightness. Some people can't see certain colors. Each person is different. It's no easy task to please everyone. All we can do is try.

Hi Attilio - Just played around with this and like the new look and functionality. Found a few missing icons, but I assume you already were aware of those (Science Team I and Polarize Hull I were the two I use, but there were some others). If it's possible, one request for down the road would to add a mouse-over or right-click option to view the details of a particular weapon/BOFF/ability/etc in the Starship menu. This would be to prevent having to Left-Click and load the drop-down selection screen.
Thanks for all your hard work on this!

Thanks for the feedback! Glad you like it :)
Reply to AttilioApril 10, 2016 at 05:37 pm
Hi Attilio,
While I like the new planner I hate to report its virtually unusable on mobile platforms, the old version while not perfect was far easier to use
April 11, 2016 at 05:36 am
That's part of the problem, also the layout isn't that intuitive and finding anything is difficult. The old layout and menus were a lot easier to navigate on a mobile device.
Even after locating something it fails to save, I had to give up and try on my desktop instead.
April 12, 2016 at 08:07 pm
Saving is working correctly now. I release an update yesterday.
I decided to take a more modern approach navigation and layout. Everything is categorized and then has subcategories. It's similar to the previous version except each section is more self-contained.
April 14, 2016 at 05:58 am
Thanks for the reply, I'll have to check on the saving as. My. Least saved build has reverted back to thee converted build again.
I'll do that in tjwe desktop as it's far too fiddly on mobile. The layout looks nice but Seems to favour form over function. On v5 I could see where it all was and b it was easy to find and navigate, v6 finds me having to go looking for everything.
Also was there a reason why all my builds have advanced fleet weapons instead of the previously saved weapons?
Onto the positive the skillplanner is great, works well, any chance you could put this as a stand alone tool?
April 14, 2016 at 07:19 am
v6 is 100% different than v5, so converting the old builds could result in errors like that. I did my best to minimize it though.
There's always a chance it could be made into a standalone tool, but if it does happen it won't be anytime soon. It'll require more time to do that I just don't have right now.
April 14, 2016 at 08:49 am
Fair enough on both counts 😀
Would be great if you can set up the skillplanner as a separate Standalone resource as you've done a really good job on it.
As for the other issues, I probably won't use it on mobile any more, it's more clicks to find stuff and while it undoubtedly looks better, and you clearly have spent a lot of time and effort in it's development the user experience is not as good in v6 on mobile from my perspective.
At the same time I would like to thank you for providing a very good tool to everyone for free!
April 11, 2016 at 01:18 am
Seems like a lot of empty space when things loaded when you could put more data in the same space. Boff skills and ship layout on the same page for example. Plus being able to compare powers and associated gear side by side instead of separate tabs. Much appreciated that there's a tool at all, but it feels like a step backwards or still very beta or something.

It's a necessary evil to ensure the same user experience across multiple devices. I would rather players have the same experience on desktop and mobile instead of them switching to mobile and then wondering where everything is.

I'm happy to here there is a converter in the works, please make that a priority.
Reply to ThlaylieApril 13, 2016 at 10:48 pm
It was released along with version 6. Just visit your build's link, or upload your old file and it'll automatically convert.

Reply to RagingAbyssFebruary 20, 2017 at 12:33 pm
skill planner stays the same. Doesnt matter if i change factions, or careers, it just doesnt update
Reply to CraigieFebruary 20, 2017 at 05:13 pm
What are you expecting to change? Not much changes aside from the ship list, access to certain abilities, traits, etc. Things like that.
Reply to AttilioFebruary 21, 2017 at 02:20 am
Hey Attilio,
Thanks for the quick reply :)
Well,i guess i thought that being a engineer would have points spent on different skills compared to science or tactical. Or is that a misconception? I have been away from STO for nearly a year. I just came back to it at the start of the winter event and found the skills were changed, and so were kits and modules. I have heap of toons to do, so i was just hoping to find a guide i could use to do the skills quickly on all my toons. Other wise, it will probably take a few days lol
February 21, 2017 at 08:44 am
When i first looked at the skill planner the other night, there were skills set out, that was what i was asking about. But when i looked tonight, it was all wiped clean. So, im just tryin to figure how i want my toons setup, what points to spend where for the different career paths. i guess only why to find out is to just try a setup, if no good, do a retain.
im finding it a bit daunting after they revamped the skills. I was used to old layout, now i got to learn the new way
February 21, 2017 at 10:40 am
Skills are the same for everyone now. I suggest putting a build together in the skill planner, save it to a link and post it on our forums. We have a section where you can ask for advice. The only thing quicker is to search for a build either through the planner or online and use that.
Reply to AttilioFebruary 22, 2017 at 01:53 am
ok, thanks, will try those options then :)

I have to agree with you on what you said but with some people like my self cant stare at the screen an read with out blinking an all we see is what we have read so with a dark screen it dosent do that just n idea let us chose the color
