STO Wish List - March, 2011
Captain's Blog Stardate 88803.48
With the end of Cloaked Intentions we are looking forward to the future of STO. Coming soon will be the Foundry system and Season 4. For those of you who don't know, Foundry will allow players to create and share their own missions. Season 4 will include some new Klingon PvE content, a ground combat revamp, and other goodies. Most of these things are features that the community has asked for. Today I'd like to take a moment to share my STO wish list with all of you. The list is in no particular order, just a random list of things I would love to see in STO. Some of these things we'll actually be able to see during this year, other things aren't even being talked about yet. Either way, I'm looking forward to the future. 1) Ship retrofit through crafting - Already being talked about by Cryptic. 2) Item decrafting - Being able to take any item and break it down into anomalies in order to reuse them. 3) More Klingon PvE missions - Supposedly its on the way with Season 4. 4) Branching mission objectives for the Foundry - We already have branching dialog, so this would be the next logical step (I hope). 5) Removal of Enemy Signal Contacts - You know those red balls in space? The enemy battles? Useless if you ask me. I think they should be completely removed along with the missions and accolades for them. I did hear talk by the devs about changing the way these work. Maybe they'll do them better. 6) Exploration - Yes we need better, close to realistic exploration. Honestly I have no thoughts on how to implement this, but I've heard the devs have some ideas. 7) Random missions - I would like to be flying through sector space and get a random distress call. Then I can travel to the nearby system and do the mission. It just feels more Trek-like to me. 8) Ship interiors - Some form of customization and expansion of ship interiors. Honestly I'd like to be able to customize my entire ship. Deciding what is on each deck, changing the walks and doors, decorating my quarters, and much more. Let me know what you guys want to see in STO. I look forward to reading your thoughts.Written by Attilio on March 13, 2011 at 11:57 pm

I agree with on on the Enemy Contacts in Sector Space. They're pretty annoying and I have no interest at all in participating in them. The worst part is when you set a course for you next system, take a trip to the restroom and come back to Red Alert or a ship in pieces.
I have only recently started playing after taking a break shortly after STO launch, so if some of the changes I suggest are already in the game and I just haven't found that option yet I am sorry and please let me know, but I think Some of the things I'd like to see in the game would be:
1. The continuation of Featured Episodes. I'm a quester at heart and found these to be the most enjoyable part of the game for me thus far.
2.Holodeck, something with holodeck, it may not have to be as detailed as the foundry tool, but maybe just a few default environments just to be something different when you get into a lul in the game.
3.Instant messaging, I wouldn't mind a separate box or even tabs for my instant/private messages.
4.A Display Kit/Armor Option for self and crew. Meaning to be able to turn it on and off without having to remove the item. I didn't spend 45 minutes customizing appearances for it to be covered up by armor and kits every time I and my crew beam down. I notice the casual outfit will do that when you change uniforms but your options on that uniform are limited.
5.Crafting in the Field without having to return to Memory Alpha. Maybe only having to return to learn a new tier but in between being allowed to craft while running missions.
6.More Free Uniform Options
7.Fighter ships for the Federation. I have some scorpion fighters equipped as a device that I'm holding on to from a quest reward but I'm down to 15 launches left and when they're gone I'll be sad. I'd like to see these crafted or purchasable.
The more I sit and think this list could grow and grow so I'll stop here, but that's my two cents to start with.

Cryptic is already discussing the idea of making ship interiors customizable through the Foundry; I think, as long as they have some functionality in them as well, it would be an awesome way to do it. There's also talk of Exploration becoming something that utilizes the Foundry tech, as well. I like the idea of item de-crafting, too; I had a similar notion.

Wanoreck...
In response to a couple of your points..
#4 On your equip screen, right-click your armor or kit and hit "disable visuals". You can do this on your officers as well.
#7 After you have depleted your scorpion fighters (or deleted them to speed the process), you can re-run the same mission you got them in (The Vault) to get a brand new set with 50 charges.

To start with:
1)Item De-crafting -PLEASE!
2)Random Missions -use these to replace DSE's
3)Better Item Crafting -so I can add the abilities I want to the items I want.
4)Crafting on my Ship -there is already an R&D room... just equip it.
5)Training - any BOFF skill previously puchased trains ME then I can train them, without having to fly all the way to ESD. (still costs merits though)
6)Craftable Universal BOFF Slots/Retrofits with Universal BOFF Slots -I mean come on, I'm a VA and I can't choose who sits where on My ship??
7)Ground Abilities of BOFF's in my bar -so I can assign hotkeys.
I have a few more, but those would be my biggest sells.

Enemy Signal Contacts
I use Enemy Signal Contacts to power level my ALTs. If they go away so does powering leveling. Beside its fun to pop in when you want for a quick fire fight.

Maybe instead of taking out DSE, make them voluntary instead. I have to admit I don't like them that much, but other people are different.
I would like to see at top level, being able to have any of the ships that you've had before, specced up to your level. It can't be that hard can it?
Also, being on the bridge side of an away mission for some episodes could be interesting. Being on the bridge and trying to control the mission from there, and judging on what you do and say whether the mission succeeds or not.
