A few weeks ago I had a blog about ending the Iconian story and a lot of you had some good opinions. Now Cryptic officially announced Season 10 and in that announcement they said, and I quote, "Season 10 of Star Trek Online begins the conclusion of a conflict that has been brewing in Star Trek Online for more than five years." This really makes me believe that Cryptic is on a path to end this story. So here is my prediction.

If they really want to, they can drag this story out for two more years, but I believe they want to end it so a new story can renergize Star Trek Online. The remainder of this year and first half of 2016 will be used to end the story. They may end it in such a way that the Iconians could potentially return, but for now they are finished.

Towards the end of 2016 we'll get the next big expansion including a new playable faction, most likely Cardassians. This expansion will also set up the next story. What should this story be? Well there is a lot of history to build off of, including the stories in Star Trek Online. I believe the next big story will revolve around a Kelvan invasion, and here's why.

As we know from Star Trek: The Original Series in the "By Any Other Name" episode, the Kelvans were on their way to the Milky Way to find suitable worlds for them to live on... and take over. They came by means of a generational ship. We also know that Worf in the "Time's Orphan" episode of DS9 said he has fought Kelvans, which leads me to believe they sent multiple generational ships. Lastly, in "Uneasy Allies" in STO, Sela says we have taken a gateway to the Andromeda galaxy. My prediction... you guessed it. The Kelvans will now use these operational gateways to invade the Milky Way.

I'll end on that note. Perhaps it is not the most exciting and perhaps I am completely wrong. Still, would you like to fight a Kelvan? Let me know in the comments!

Yes and no. We did walk through a gateway that brings us to a sphere. The sphere was in the Andromeda galaxy and later jumped. Doesn't it stand to reason that the Iconians have also built gateways in the Andromeda galaxy?

Not sure I would want to be transformed into a small oddly shaped styrofoam container.

Even it's only a small arc I'd really like to something done with the Dominion. We've used Iconian gateways to reach the Delta Quadrant but we haven't seen anything from the Dominion that wasn't leftovers from the Dominion War.

There is another option. A variation of the Typhon Pact, which is from the novels.., in the books, after the Destiny Arc which ended the Borg threat for good, the Quadrants were hit hard by the war and the Breen, Tholians, and other non aligned races formed their own Confederation and started causing problems for the Federation and their allies.

Other unused canon aliens which could be potential enemy groups are the Talarians, the Son'a, and the Sheliak. The Talarians are a technoligically inferior civilization and, thus, not cut out to be a major enemy. The Son'a are strong (and Insurrection did not necessaarily imply that all of them were pacified), but perhaps they are not mysterious enough. Also, their former association with the Dominion makes them more suitable to be featured as a side-show act along with any Gamma Quadrant-related expansion. Lastly, the Sheliak appear to be strong, mysterious, and hostile, or at least merciless towards humanoids (much like the Tholians). If there is a canon-alternative to the Kelvans as a new potential major enemy, I think it would be the Sheliak.

I don't think we will see the iconian war wrapped up soon, it will be dragged out. To follow though I think we are going to vist the gamma quadrant, I can see season arcs instead of a multi season narrative. The hint could be in the cut scene from one of the new ep,'s, the most famous captain of the alpha and beta quadrants, we have the usual races and a rather well dressed cardasian. My call on the next exp, cardasian faction and the beginning of a dominion arc.

I, personally, would love to see a renewed conflict with the Gamma Quadrant Dominion.
