To Level 60 And Beyond!

Captain's Blog Stardate 92250.54

So we received some news about the level cap increase. Each new level from 51 to 60 will award a Specialization Point that you can use in the Specialization Tree. This sounds like another skill tree specifically for levels 51 to 60 that will award new abilities. Also, once you reach level 60, Skill Points will no longer be converted to Expertise. What?!

Don't freak out yet. After you gain enough Skill Points to reach a new level you'll be awarded another Specialization Point. As for Expertise, they'll have more ways to earn it so that it makes up for the fact that Skill Points are no longer being converted to it.

Aside from that, as we level up we'll get duty officers, a bridge officer, upgraded abilities that we had received previous levels, and an additional trait slot at level 60. I'm not sure if the duty officers or bridge officer is worth it. Maybe it is for new players, but for all of us who have been level 50 for a while we pretty much have the DOffs and BOffs that we need. I fear that those levelling rewards will be sold.

I'm really interested in this whole Specialization thing and can't wait for more details on it. In the comments let me know your thoughts on this latest news.

Sounds like I have a lot of work ahead of me for the skill planner!

We probably will, but I'm sure everyone will get at least one for free.

I don't envy the work this promises you -- but you remain one of the best STO resources online!

The new increase to level 60, alone, looks great! I am actually looking forward to it. But that's not the all of what Delta Rising has to offer which has me, as I've said before, concerned. The new trait slot looks nice! :)

Fair enough, although supposedly there will be a way to upgrade equipment. I don't know if the devs confirmed that or not, but it is a rumor which I think has merit.

I don't want to upgrade my stuff it it will cost me anything. In the forums I suggested we get free upgrades or the option to sell/ trade in our mk XII gear for a full refund. including provisions etc etc. That seems reasonable.

I think some things are on tribble but not everything. I haven't actually checked, just looked at the patch notes.

I read the release notes for Tribble and it said that Tribble is currently only available for gold users.

also just to add... I still think Lifetime subscribers should get a slightly better benefit. we paid a hefty price for it and should reap better rewards

The rewards should be Cryptic/PWE actually taking Veterans and lifetimers wants MORE seriously than everybody else. But will they do that... NOPE! My fleet has ALL veterans in it, they either have been here since beta or day 1 and are now quitting the game because of all this new nonsense. I'm assuming you are a lifetimer and/or veteran so I think you will agree with me when I say: new content DOES NOT equal new grinding. I only hope that Cryptic/PWE can get that through their short term economics business model and actually do this game justice.... but thats just me. :)

I've been a lifer since it was first available back in 2010 and an active member of the community just as long. I would never want my opinion to be valued more than other players. There are both gold and silver players who have good and bad ideas. Your membership status doesn't determine your level of knowledge of what's best for the game.

The majority, if not all, of MMOs have some type of grinding for new and better equipment. Is it a perfect system? Not at all. I've always despised grinding, but that's the way it's done. I'm grateful that I have a fun fleet who I can do things with, which makes the grinding less annoying lol I'm also grateful that we'll be getting some good content along with this expansion. Cheers for more episodes! :D

Maybe I just view this differently since I've known about a level cap increase for a couple of years and always expected new and better equipment to continuously come out. The aegis set, the maco/omega, the fleet stuff... they were all grinds that I went through so I'm not seeing any difference here.

Just because history repeats itself doesn't mean it has to.

Of course not. Nothing has to happen. For example, you don't have to pay your taxes but they still exist.

As I said, I'm just looking at this from a different perspective than you. I don't like grinding but I've come to peace with it. I know I'll never be 100% satisfied with my character because there is always something new coming to the game. I guess that's the double edged sword of MMOs.

I agree with you guys, and though I HATE grinding. I understand the necessity of doing it.

here is a small suggestion i would like cryptic to do.

currently we grind for ages to earn enough marks for equipment. (now I refer to an earlier blog for a more universal mark system) but lifers should get a nice perk as to either reward more than average marks for an stf or have a reduced figure to give in order to get a new piece of equipment.

so say if a non lifer/gold gets average of 100 marks and 960 dil per stf. lifers/gold could get 20% extra marks/dil per stf.

what do you think?

i dont say that i know it all about the game and i certainly would not think im a vet but its just my 2 pence worth...
