Vets, Risa, and Vegas
Captain's Blog Stardate 91178.12
It's almost here...
It's coming closer...
Star Trek Las Vegas! Two weeks ago I posted a blog about the convention and I just want to follow up. First, here is my official invite video http://youtu.be/fdNKtF-pN1Y for the STO universe. If you can't make it then subscribe to my CoreScoop YouTube Channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/CoreScoop) because I'll be posting videos about the convention on there.
If you are going and would like to meet up with me then contact me through Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, or anywhere else you can think of. I'll be there Wednesday through Sunday. You can find me at the convention wearing my CoreScoop shirt as well. All this info is in the video above.
Saturday night at 8:00pm I'll be at the iBar in the Rio Hotel to meet with the STO devs as well as other STO players and podcasters. If you'll be around Saturday night and are over 21 then come to the iBar so we can all hang out. I'm really looking forward to meeting them and you.
Now let's move on to STO... specifically the Veteran rewards! They were both announced and released this week and it all looks really good. I really really really... REALLY like the skin. It's a nice shiny light bluish color with glowing green highlights where necessary. It looks amazing! I'm not a fan of the Commander's Gig shuttle. It looks a little weird, kind of like a baby bird-of-prey with a really big head. The uniforms are great as well.
Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to take the ship for a test flight but my assumption is that it is very similar to the Fed and KDF vet ships (since both of those are very similar as well). If anyone has used this ship already then let me know what you think about it.
Lastly I want to talk about Risa. I just heard an interesting rumor (perhaps it's a fact?) from members in the STOA fleet, that the map for the Risa event will stay even when the event is over. Has anyone else heard this? I'm a little surprised since the winter map is removed after the event but I'm not completely against this. This Risa map is really nice, better than the regular one we have.
Latinum strip for your thoughts. Have you heard that it will be staying? If not, would you like it to stay? Would you visit it? Let me know!

Mon Capitan!
Maybe this will shine some light on the rumors. The map will be available beyond the pearls collection deadline, but only for 2 weeks.
As described on STO website:
"The Risians will open their event on a new resort island starting at around 10AM PDT on Thursday, June 27, and the festivities will last until server maintenance on Thursday, August 15."
And new update is:
"((Update! (7/19/13): As announced in the recent State of the Game article, we will be extending the time needed to get pearls by a couple of days for those who may have missed a day — the new end date has been moved from August 2nd to August 4th, 2013 at noon PDT.))"
So we'll be able to collect pearls till Aug 4th, but the event map will be available till Aug 15.

I did know about that. From what I heard, the new Risa map will be staying forever which is what I found odd. I had just assumed that it would be removed when the event ended on the 15th.

Hmm... I heard from some members of U.E.F. Dynasty that the map may be staying, but I don't know what the Devs have to say about it... Hmm maybe you could talk them into keeping the island Attilio. :)

I wish I had that kind of influence :)

The Daeinos Heavy Destroyer is pretty much a copy of the Chimera and Peghqu' Heavy Destroyers, right down to the Plasma Lotus. The Commander's Gig was seen on screen in the TNG episode, where Admiral Alidar Jarok "defected" to warn Starfleet about a supossedly invasion by the Romulans.
I really hope, they keep the Festival Island and make it the new Risa Map. Not only does make a nice scenery in Foundry missions, but players could still use their Floaters and don't have to wait for a year to break them out again. After all, Frosty Boots are usable all year.

Well,
Standard Crytpic tactic would be to take the resort map away after the event so that it is still 'special' during the event.
I would like to see an update of the main Risa Map to include floaters, that would be cool.
[While you can use your frosty boots all year, you can only ice skate with them during the winter event....)]

Funny bit with the floaters.. I never picked up but the first one. The run>launch trick on the base model seems to work very well. Can't tell you how many advanced floater fliers I passed on the flying high missions.
Wouldn't mind some change on Risa though. Maim map is nice, but barring Foundry missions, useless.
