I'm Attilio. I write the guides on STO Academy and I build and maintain the site's tools, the Build Planner and the Combat Log Reader.
I have played Star Trek Online since 2010. These days I fly the U.S.S. Fortitude, a Fleet Intel Assault Cruiser (T6-X2). Years of playing across many seasons is why the guides lean on the questions I kept running into myself: what actually changes my damage, which gear is worth the grind, and what a new level 50 captain should do first.
My dad introduced me to Star Trek through the original series, and I enjoyed it so much that I watched every episode. I have rewatched everything from The Original Series through Enterprise multiple times, and I have seen every new episode and movie of Trek at least once.
I have been a web developer for about as long as I have played the game, and professionally I work on the marketing website of a company, so building and maintaining sites is my day job as well as my hobby. I built the original STO Academy website, and I built the current version, including the Build Planner's rules engine and the Combat Log Reader's parser. The tools are written by someone who plays the game, which is the reason they follow its real rules rather than a loose approximation of them.
The guides explain the game's mechanics in plain language, drawing on the community's published research and builds, and they link to the tools on this site so you can check the numbers against your own build and your own combat log. Each guide shows when it was published and when it was last updated. Star Trek Online changes often, so if something in a guide is out of date or wrong, please tell me through the contact page. I read every message and fix confirmed errors.
For the story behind STO Academy, how the community catalog works, and how the site is paid for, see the About page. All the guides are on the Guides page.
